As far as i see it, Dr. Oz is a tv clown that teaches the general public about GENERAL knowledge, which i guess might be lacking in the states. His personality is annoying as F and makes me want to fast forward every time he is in that show. No clue nor no interest in his actual Medical achievements but if they keep showing him in that show, ill probably stop watching.

Thing i dont get is why would they run BostonMed for 7-8 eps or w/e it was and then start the exact same idea just in NY 2 years later? MA hospitals are fantastic and running BostonMed continuously would just increase fan base instead of starting basically over with NYmed.

How about "Grady Anatomy" where Sanjay Gupta et al were a part of a reality show about Emory/Atlanta Grady Hospital?

Because it's made for the summer line-up, which is shorter (7-8 weeks). The show isn't going to compete with fall primetime shows.

Watched this today with my mom. She said the ER docs were mean for being snarky about the Christian Scientists behind their back. I laughed.

I liked tonight's episode. The sections of the show focusing on the ex-military personnel with the defective heart and the ups and downs of his experience in various northeastern hospital was very interesting. It was also cool seeing Dr. Oz give some of his nurses a hard time over their eating habits.

It was also very satisfying to see an endoscope shoved in Dr. Oz's anus. If only the diameter was larger.

NY Med = trauma + transplant + dr. Oz. Rinse and repeat. Like everything else associated with New York City, this show is disappointing.

Holy crap that sucks so bad. I remember that episode and just how destroyed he looked when he realized what happened. I guess I'm glad he found a way to make a living after (it seems) being thrown out.

    But those poor kids :(

Not true. She did a general surgery residency followed by a one year fellowship in "cosmetic surgery" and now does all face and body cosmetic procedures. She did not do a plastic surgey residency which includes reconstructive and cosmetic surgical training. I would never go see her for a cosmetic procedure.

    why? She seems legit.

Or is it because of the fame stuff like how people hate Dr. Oz because he absorbs fame?

Why wouldn't you go to her? I would imagine that cosmetic would be right up her alley. She can get patients to trust her with he looks alone. I wouldn't trust her with a gunshot though.

I was gonna add "cosmetic =/= plastic" to my original reply but I gave you the benefit of the doubt and assumed it was something you already knew....guess not.

startswithb is correct. Plastic surgery is a residency in and of itself. Cosmetic is not; it's a fellowship that can be pursued by many types of physicians and is more limited in scope and practice. I wouldn't have a problem going to her for cosmetic stuff, but definitely not plastic stuff.

I looked at the list of procedures she does, and I just can't imagine how prepared she would be after just one year. Unless you do eyelids and abdominoplasties in a gen surg residency? Compared to a BC plastic and recon surgeon, I doubt I would choose someone at a medispa first.

She is hot, but is that how you really want to attract patients? Look at her website. Her professional photo has her breasts showing.

    That's professionalism in 2012.

A male doc with his shirt unbuttoned would be quite nice too :)

I did find it a little odd that she had her big mane of feathered hair out bouncing around while doing procedures. I'm not too knowledgable about ER protocols, but that didn't seem like great practice. Granted, the patients are coming in right off the street, but...

Yeah a few people on the nymed site were saying that she should've tied her hair back. I also felt that she was got pretty tense and pushy whenever a trauma rolled in. Maybe that's just her personality? She was a chief resident so I'd assume she knows what she is doing. Could be wrong though

In general surgery, all residents in their final year are "chief resident."

Only in non-surgical specialties is it something where you are selected because of how awesome you are. And it may not be how awesome you are so much as everyone else turns it down before you lol.

I didn't like that trauma surg girl. When the attending was trying to give her directions in the trauma bay she was giving him all kinds of attitude. Plus she goes through all that training and she ends up doing cosmetic surgery? c'mon!

Dr. Oz is pretty arrogant...however, can you really fight it? Going from Harvard to UPenn Med and eventually ending up as a cardiothoracic surgeon with your own talk show...i'm not saying that he is the best thing since sliced bread, but DAMN.
