Hi People,

This is a serious thread, and don't mean to sound extremely stupid....this is the deal...I have gone to a couple of interviews, including some of my top choices :D

but this si the thing, I recently got this interview invitation, and I havent heard from my top schools yet....I was wondering is anyone waiting for a NY Med spot? Cuz, I am ambivalent about the school...I usually dont reserve judement until I have seen it...I have already been accepted to SUNY downstate, and Upstate, and they didn't leave a great impression on me...so I'm wondering would NY Med be better?

I was wondering, maybe I should schedule an interview late in March, so by the time I hear from my favorite choices I can then withdraw or go accordingly?! but I aslo have this guilt trip of "holding someone's spot"...I see pple posting here with no interview, and I feel bad if my indecision is causing unbearable pain for someone? but I dont know, havent heard from my top choices, and the Suny schools have a better fee, but I'm confused, should I schedule it or should I withdraw?

thanks,

watcha

well, i'd like to have an interview there...so if you're willing to give up your spot....

Well, NYMC is actually a pretty decent school... they've got nice facilities, the housing is great, but the only problem is that the price seems a bit steep. I liked this school when I was there, but I will probably be withdrawing, as I have been accepted elsewhere. I think if you want to "see" the school then definitely don't withdraw... because then at least you can leave this avenue open.

oh dont say that!!! I would feel so bad....I wish they could give my interview to you then :(

Ok I guess I am going to withdraw then...

watcha, i interviewed there last year, so i was hoping for a majestic return, but haven't gotten one yet. so heck yeah i'm interested. i have interviews at temple and mcp, but i feel like my hard work and improved application merits more opportunities to get in. hook me up?

i haven't heard shi*t from NY med. what is the deal with this school? i have interviwed other places and liked them, but i thought that i would be a pretty competitive NY med applicant. they seem pretty random to me. i'm not suggesting that you give up your interview spot just to help us (those still waiting to hear something), i am just stating that i don't know what the deal is with this school.
has anyone been rejected pre-interview from this school?
personally, if i were you, i would got to your interveiw if cash is not that much of a problem. you may as well keep your options open.

You have to realize that the school like many others has around 6000 applicants applying for less than 200 spots. So even if only 1/3 of the applicants are competitive this leaves 2000 people who could get interviews. So in a way it is a random process where if you are lucky something in your file catches the school's eye, if not you join the other 5000 people who never get an interview. The process sucks but that is the way it is and will most likely always will be.

well..thanks for putting THAT into perspective med student.

...but now we can't complain anymore.... :(

Hi Watchamacallit: Like EMTGirl said, I would go to the interview, esp. if you're not crazy about the two other schools you've gotten into. I too am waiting for them to invite me and would love to have a crack at NYMC. But no such luck thus far.

To Caveman: Do you think that many schools, like NYMC, don't look favorably upon people they've rejected once before? Einstein has a policy whereby they caution applicants against reapplying for the 2nd time and don't even allow 3rd-time apps. In any case, I'm rooting for you. I seem to recall that your mcat score was like 4 points higher than mine, but in a lot of ways it seems our stories are similar. 2nd-time applicants, August MCATs, good GPA, only 2 interview invites (including Temple) and 0 acceptance so far, making honest efforts but getting no love from med schools. I hope we both end up getting in somewhere when the dust settles...

caveman, to show you how random this whole process is, i interviewed there last year too. i got an interview in early december from nymc again and am waiting for a (hopefully) favorable decision. but i haven't heard jack from mcp or temple. sooo... i'd say be glad for those 2 interviews and maybe nymc will come calling soon.
