Quick question regarding NY state licensing.

Since I am IMG, it states that I cannot get NY License until PGY4. However, someone told me that if you went to a Caribbean school, you can get license in PGY3, like a US MD.

Is this true?

The FSMB had a great table that they seem to have taken down, but it is archived at https://web.archive.org/web/20160313101145/http://fsmb.org/policy/public-resources/state_specific

Unless it's changed in the last few months, you can't get a license until PGY4, unlike a US MD who could get one as a PGY2.

Appreciate the post. Yep, I know about this table.

But I guess my issue is regarding IMG status, as I was told that IMG from Carribean school would be able to get NY license in PGY3 (like a US MD), vs. Non-Carribean IMG who has to wait until PGY4. I find that hard to believe, that there are "types" of IMGs. So I'm curious to see if there is any insight on this here.

That was insight. The FSMB says no. A cursory search online doesn't bring anything up. Ask whoever told you otherwise to show you evidence, because what you're stating doesn't seem to be the case.

you may be mixing up NY and Ga (not sure how but...) where if your school in on the cali approved list, you can get your license after 1 year.
