So, after much ado, I've concluded that NYC doesn't have any hotels that do not cost $229/night. Has anybody else found one? Especially any in Manhattan and in walking distance from NYU or Columbia? At this point, I am okay if the hotel is dirty and run-down, as long as it has running water and electricity and is cheaper than half a month's rent. I'll pack some lysol and suck it up.

If no one knows of any hotels, did anybody interview at these schools, and if so, where did you stay? With a student? Neither school sent info about having that as an option. Thanks!

You can stay at a hostel for about $30/night. It's not the Ritz-Carlton, but hostels will have everything you need (that is: a bed, running water, and an iron 😀) If you do use a hostel, be sure to bring a combination lock. You don't want your stuff stolen from the room while you're off impressing ADCOMs 😉

try a suburb right outside of manhatten. i went to valhalla last week, and the wellesly inn was $109. it's a 40 minute train ride from Grand Central Station in Manhatten to North White Plains via the Metro North. Oh, and the fare is about $12 each way, but it's better than paying THAT much.

haha, and where do you think you could find rent that was $500? sorry, i live in the NYC area. i am used to the high prices.

if you are ok with a little commute (ie: not walking distance), you can stay in NJ (much cheaper) and take the ferry or bus in.

where are you heading to NYC from?
