Congratulations NJdesi and kiwi219

!!
Like wannabedo stated, it's decision time!!
The people who are accepted in the 1st batch are often extremely competitive applicants. So, let me give you some great reasons to choose NYCOM when faced with multiple acceptances.
Number 1: Location!!! This was a big factor for me. You have access to everything you can imagine. Remember NYC is only 20 miles from campus. This summer I will be doing clinical research at The Glaucoma Institute in Manhattan.
2: Barbara Ross Lee, DO (dean of NYCOM)
I must say that this woman is truely phenomenal!!! She is the former dean of OSU and MSU. She is the 1st osteopathic physician to ever receive the prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellowship. If you do not know her credentials, look it up. It's impressive!!! I spoke to her last week during a meeting, and she told us that NYCOM will be purchasing 8 health care clinics currently owned by Nassau County Hospital. These clinics will be used for 1st and 2nd year student for our H&P, diagnosis, and family practice courses.
I guess that could have been number 3.....oh well
3: Clinical rotation!! NYCOM has some of the best rotation in the country. Unlike many Osteopathic medical schools, you DO NOT have to move around the country to complete your core rotations. Here is a sample of the hospitals we rotate through. Remember there are many more:
Good Samaritan Medical Center West Islip, NY St. Barnabas Hospital Bronx, NY
Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY
Long Island Jewish Medical Center - New Hyde Park, NY
North Shore University Hospital - Manhasset, NY
4: PDA project: NYCOM gives all 1st year students Sony Clie PDA's. Training on how to best use the PDA's will be incorrporated into classes. This will be useful come 3rd year.
The use of technology is impressive. NYCOM is going to be rewiring the campus to include wireless high speed internet connection. this way, you can be anywhere on campus and be connected.
Hopefuly these are good reasons to attend. The courses are hard, but you will become an excellent physician.
Again Congratulations on your acceptances and I hope to see you next fall.
Sincerely,
DOnut
