NYCOM vs.Sackler School of Medicine

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Boy for a second I thought I read "Slacker" school of medicine. I could have easily got in there.

it depends on where you plan on studying. Sackler is a great option if you plan on staying in NY. But once you leave for another state your considered a foreign graduate. I know a woman who graduated form Sackler 2 years ago and had a hard time proving to some programs here in Texas that Sackler was a legit medical school.

Personally, Id go to NYCOM.

But I think in this case you have to see where you want to end up practicing and if you prefer to be a DO or an MD.

Plus if you can adjust to life in Israel. Its safe but you dont have the opportunity to really go out anymore. A lot of people I know who live there refrain from going out unless they have to these days. One person in particular went out and just avoided getting blown up leaving a club in Tel Aviv a year ago or so.

Just make a list of pros and cons and see what your heart tells you.

np,

I didn't mean to scare you out of Sackler. Its a great school and had I gotten in Id prob thinking the school over myself.

But I just think it has some issues that one must take a long look at.

Plus Im preferential to the DO route as well.

I think that choice is a fairly tough one to make. Both are good schools, and I think either way you go is a good path to take.

Personally, I would stay in the U.S. I have chosen to go the osteopathic route over allopathy.

As far as the FMG issue; yes......going to Sackler WILL have you looked upon as an FMG. BUT, Sackler does have a good reputation as an excellent medical school. Even outside of NY. One of my closest friends is an OB/Gyn who went to one of the top residency programs here in Los Angeles. Although he was shocked, ( and a little disappointed ), he said that a student from Sackler matched this year for an OB/Gyn residency at his program. This was the first time this program took an FMG, but maybe it might help to start a trend.

Good luck with your choice!

It would scare me to death to go there....I would definitely want choose to stay....i suggest you might want to consider staying here.
