we are finally here, people.. we chose to spend our young/old golden fours years at NYU over all other schools out there. i'll admit...i was a little hesitant at first about nyu's false rumors that we all heard of... then.. i did some searching/talking/pondering/searching/(facing a rejection from harvard, feeling so unwanted)/ponderrrzZzzZzzz /some more talking with my parents(financial stuff..whatelse??) & dentists.../sorting out some of the acceptance letters i have received.... finally here i am.. glad & pumped (i think nyc energy is affecting me already)to be in a nyu class of 2006..i'm sure we all are..
i know our class will have approximately 220 people.. from what i know i think we have a few people going to nyu from this forum..raise your hands...let me see them  .... just curious how many people will be headed to nyu this fall here.. what are you guys planning to do about housing?? i think i'm going go ahead with school housing for my first year(a great opportunity to meet other classmates, and maybe some cute med. school kids too)... someone was asking about u.penn/columbia orientation the other day.. what about ours?? any idea? congrats to all of you once again... let me know about the housing situation and all, you, my fellow nyu classmates!!! :D

hey whats up? congrats on your decision...i am just so indecisive these days! so what other schools did you get into..why NY?
~Sonigee :D

hi,
congrats on your add to NYU.i am also going there but in the advanced standing programme.i think its the best school cos it has the best input of patients and no other school in USA compares to that.i think its good to stay in NYU housing cos its next to the school.what are you opting for dorms or the studio cos i guess if you share studio with somebody you have to pay about $800/mo,and for dorm sharing u pay $1,100.have u seen the housing facilities there? let me know ur views about it.take care, bye.

i see we have less than ten people going to NYU dental this year from this forum... a lot less than i have expected... to those of you who fit into "less than ten people going to nyu" category, my fellow nyu classmates.. congrats to you once again.. let's talk about housing a little bit!!! and other stuff.
did anyone get to see the 26th street dorm/apartment?? no touring guide provided..i asked already this morning.. i'm wondering if the room has enough space for my small alarm clock(2'X2'X2').. you know how small the nyu rooms/apartments are ..seriously,.. will i have enough space to put my bike?
ohh.. what are your plans for this summer? anyone doing a research at nyu? taking a class? how are you preparing for your first year? i sound so tensed...i have every reason to be though.. taking a big step into the world of dentistry "the greatest (but somewhat stressful )profession...being able to study what we have aimed for all these years(all those restless/sleepless nights we went through) in the the city which never sleeps...can't ask more than that....!! rite?? i'm sure that's why you chose nyu, sonigee... rite???

Hey fellow NYU classmates,
I am going to NYU this fall! I am not sure about housing- I plan to stay in university housing for at least the first year- until I find a roommate for the second year. Does anyone know when orientation begins? In my acceptance letter, it just said the end of August... Congrats everyone on the acceptance and the decision of NYU!!
-Brian

Hi Ms.Dentist2B..whats up girl!? i am gettin' real psyched about school! thank god that there are dorms @ NY..seems like much less of a hassle..and the nitelife is going to be incredible..BUT we gotta stick with the program and make sure not to go crazy.... :p
so, don't you already live in NY? not too much of a change for you is it? The dorms are small, but fairly new so it shouldn't be too bad..i really wanna do the private suite thing, but i dont' know if 1st years are able to ....ck out the housing site and take a look at it...pretty decent from the outside...... :)
i am just gonna work and go to vegas and san francisco this summer...also take some spanish classes (don't ask:) anyhow...see you all soon...lets all keep in touch
:D
Sonigee

brianm74.. nyu orientation starts on august 19th. if you get the 26th street apartment/dorm, you will be able to move in on august 18th. i'm not sure if you know about 26th street housing options. you get can have a shared studio, a shared 1-bedroom, a private room with a housemate. either way you will get a roommate/housemate you are planning on living on 26th street.
sonigee.. good to hear that you are excited about this coming year at nyu... we will study hard and play hard... i live in long island which is about 30minutes away from manhattan, suburban area. as for the size of the apartment... one of my friends has an apartment near wall street, paying a little more than a thousand for the monthly rent. despite of its rent, that place was small... that's why i was a bit concerned.. but no worries.. we will be spending our days and nights at the library and school anyways.. :D
good to see some new nyu 2006 classmates!!!

hey.. everyone... NYU once again was named as the easiest dental school to get into (according to an individual, R*******0 recently in this forum. Even after discussing on this topic literally millions of times, too many to even count. There is someone out there(even in this forum) still believing and spreading out those false rumors about nyu. yes.. we do have a big class but that does not make one school the easiest. Speaking of an acceptace rate, does one not know about 2000 people apply for 200 positions?? waht i'm saying is it's all the same. in my opinion even if someone feels confident enough to give an opinion about a specific school to others, it should be based on the facts not a mere assumption(for example, gpa, dat score...etc). I am not going to criticize that individual for releasing a false information. We, the class of 2006, just have to study and work harder to change some people's ignorant and false impression about nyu. are you with me on this??

Hi guys..i was sooooo irritated when i saw that comment!!...what ppl dont realize is that alot of ppl that decide to go to NYU have been accepted to other schools and CHOOSE to come to NY!!!! what does that say??...people need to get a grip and remember that at one point,we were all praying to get into ONE dental school...be humble guys and thankful:) anyways, we are all going to be DDS's or DMD's in the end..so chill:)
btw..we are gonna have a blast in NY:)

sonigee and msdentist2b,
I am with the both of you- dental school is difficult to get into. It is an honor to be accepted- I know that I am honored! NYU is a good school with a long line of successful dental graduates. Sure, all dental schools are different and accept different types and amounts of incoming students- but, it is the ultimate goal of all dental schools to prepare their students for their dental careers. In the end, we are all going to be colleagues- so why the competition between schools? NYU is a great school and one that I am proud to be attending this fall! See you there!

Hi, future classmates!!
I have just joined this forum and this is great!!!
I really love this site... I have gotten so many info from this forum
anyways... I will be joining NYU this fall :D

I am very excited~!!

hope to see all of you there :)

by the way.... did you guys receive financial aid package yet?? cuz i didnt receive mine yet

and also share your housing info ~ thanx!!!!

Hey TYYJ..welcome:) i haven't rcvd my fin packet yet either..i called and left a msg for Marisol(Fin Aid Dept),but she never called back...so i am assuming they are still working on them... :) I need your guys' advice..should i have my parents come with me to help me get situated on the 18th of aug..or should i have them come for hte white coat ceremony which is on the 4th of september? what are you guys gonna do?

Hello fellow NYUers,
I recieved my financial aid packet last week, but it wasn't complete and I have to call them today.
Sonigee, I would have your parents come with you in August to get you settled in. Its very hectic and it definetly helps having family or friends there to help with your shopping and moving. I was there helping my fiance last fall, so this is coming from experience. From what I hear, the white coat ceremony is nice, but alot of the students don't even bother to attend. So if your parents can only come for one, I'd recommend they come with you in aug.
Hope that helps. :)

TYYJ and Diente,
Hello! Nice to meet you both. I will be attending NYU this fall and can't wait! I have not received any financial aid information as of yet either. I did receive the housing info. I think I will have my parents help move me in in August rather than the white coat ceremony...

hello..all.. i received a letter for the second tuition deposit for may last week. as i was reading the letter, they said that i should have received a letter about the upcoming curriculum and a financial aid package. assuming that mine probably got lost in the mail.. i called the admission office and the financial aid office to ask them to send me the new copies. i was informed that none of those letters/packages were sent out. so expect to receive those this week or beginning in may. (i hope this helps!) why do they have to have the white coat ceremony on wednesday?? i don't think my parents can attend that one. :(
sonigee, i'm assuming that you will be living on 26th street. heehee.. we will be apartmentmates then... haha.. and good comeback on that R*******0's comment on nyu.
once again it will be exciting to meet everyone from this forum in august.. yeah!!! :) until then guys... have fun in the sun  and keep in touch!!! peace

Hiya all~
Thanx for the warm welcome!!

I just applied for housings... hope i will get a private room :p

by the way... where u guys from? Im from NY

ooops.. never mind... I could see where u guys from now...

Hey All,
When did everyone go to NYU to interview- maybe we have already met! I was there Friday, March 22nd. Anyone else?

Hey Brian...jan 11 was my date...had Dr.W...i had to send in my 2k today...damn, it sux cuz i had previously pd BU 3k to hold my spot too! did you guyz get all the immunizations & stuff..its weird cuz i sware i had the chicken pox in 3rd grade, but my varicella titer said i wasnt immune to it...weird eh'? are you all gonna buy the laptops at NY ???

Hey! I need to send in my 2k still! I better get on that! I am not going to buy the laptop through NYU b/c my dad works for IBM and I can get it much cheaper through him...

does anyone know how full nyu's class is right now?...I just got an interview invite but i don't know if i should go. I kinda wouldn't mind going and visiting nyc and some friends i have at NYU dental but yeah...=o)....how is nyu?

Hello everyone,
I would recommend buying your own laptop instead of buying it from NYU. NYU charges way too much for them. So save some $$$$$ and buy your own as long as it meets all the mimimum requirements. :D

hey I'm applying for next year guys, and want to go to NYU, so hopefully you guys will stick around here and give out some good advice!!!! THANKS!!! :D  :D

Hey Vixen..that would be so cool if you come there next year..! I know you will get in:)

Hey NYU classmates-
What is everyone up to? Has everyone sent in their housing info? What about financial aid info- has anyone received any info?

hey brian...still no word from fin aid dept...i guess we will have to play the waiting game till it gets here:)

Hey, guys

What are you guys doing about housing? Are all new dental students shoved into the 26th street housing? I heard it was pretty hard to get a private room as first years. Also, do dental students get to room with dental students only?

Thanks for the info...

Hey Pi Guy-
I am under the impression that dental students room with dental students- at least I hope so. The first year living sucks because for the most part- you have no idea who you will be rooming with.

Financial aid info anyone??????

I called the financial aid office and they said the it should be done in a few weeks. That conversation took place a few weeks ago. NYU runs kinda late with things I've noticed.
As far as housing in the 26th street building, not all dental students go there. My fiance got in a private room there last year but some of her class mates had to go to other buildings closer to the main campus more downtown.

Diente:

Did her friends all get private rooms? I sent in my housing stuff today...pretty late in the game. :( I'm hoping to land a private room somehow.

Brian, our first day is August 26th? Orientation is August 18th, right?

Hi all

If I call NYU for interview now, will I have any chance of getting in?

Please help, thanks!

:) :)

Generally, interviews are only granted by the admissions committee. I'm pretty sure NYU is done with its interviews for this fall. I was granted an interview early April but kept pushing it back until the last week of interviews (last week of April) b/c of my busy schedule....I ended up going to the interview and got accepted on the spot. They told me that all their seats are filled (but I'm guessing that it's based on the deposits received....). Based on this, expect some admitted students to forfeit their seat/deposit leaving an open seat for someone on the waiting list.

I am pretty sure it is the 26th- I think that is what I read somewhere. I think orientation is the 19th. Anyone know for sure?

Hey Piguy,
The first day of orientation is August 19th.
My fiance turned in her housing application pretty late in the game too and she got a private room. Not all her classmates got what they wanted. I heard that they give preference to those students who are traveling there from far away like CA just because its more difficult for us to find housing on our own. I'm heading out there this week to visit and look around for a studio around campus. I'll keep you all updated on the availiability and prices.

Hey Brian..your right...orientation is the 19th and school starts the 26th...i am gonna get there the day we are allowed to move into the dorms..i am praying for a private suite!!! Still haven't heard anything from the fin/aid dept yet either..did you all get your immunizations and such?

Hey Sonigee,
No- I have not gotten my immunizations yet. I am planning on moving to New York on the 17th (as long as we can get into the dorms then...). It will be here before we know it!

hi. everyone. how are you doing, guys? glad to see some new faces(?)!!! i think our moving-in date is august 18.. which is on sunday..
does anyone know if there is a gym facility near the 26th street dorm? i know nyu has this cole sports center on/near washington square. is that the only one they have? also how much do we have to pay to use that facility? having a gym membership in nyc can get really expensive..i hope i don't have to pay thousands of dollars just to use a treadmill...

hey ms.dentist...yeah the cole center is totally free for students..(better be,we're paying enuf:)
anyhow..the thing about the COLE is that it opens at 7:30am...i want something that is 24 hours or open at like 4am..so i am gonna check out teh NY Sports Ctr or the Crunch or some other place and see how much $$ those are....btw..the shuttle will take us to the COLE from the dorms...

Brian...you are gonna ship all your stuff? i was just thinkin about lugging a coupla suitcases with w/my parents ....what are the rest of ya'll gonna do?

Well, I am planning on shipping most of my stuff. I will be flying into NYC, so I won't be able to carry too much on the plane. What is everyone else doing?

hey.. sonigee.. wow.. i'm gonna have a workout buddy.. how nice!!! since we are going to have the classes from 8am-5pm(ahhh.. NNnnoooo~~)everyday, i don't think i will be going to the gym before 7. actually i don't think i can even get up at 7. anyways.. i need to find a gym that's close enough from the school and the 26th street dorm so i can go rite after the class ends. i won't be able call/find out about the gym location/status since i'm out of the country rite now. so if you have ne new info. about the gyms around that area, you will share that with this gym buddy.. rite?? :D
for everyone else!! i know we need to get that dvd thing. are there any books we might need to get? did all the fres/soph rely mainly on the dvd for studying?
why do we have to have the white coat ceremony on wed? my parents won't be able to attend. weekends will be so much better. well.. just my thought!!
for those who are taking the finals, good luck to you!! for those who are not in school, only thing i will say is "have tons and tons of fun" :D

Hey MsDentist...cool..now i have a workout buddy too :D
Girl..the gym memberships are a lot of $$$...i have called around and they are not that close to schooll...are you sure that classes start at 8? i know they do give us a break b/n classes...i might have to join you right after our last class..we can hitch the shuttle to the COLE...it does totally suck that our parents can't join us for the coat ceremony..oh well..i doubt that many parents will be there b/c of that ..

did you guys get a recent letter from amy stating all the requirement info? i was freaked out when i saw that yest, b/c i guess they lost my picture and my app fee...talk about a heart attack...
take care guys....

dude, you can join a public gym (the bath house) on 25th and 1st ave for 25 a year, or you can also join Crunch on 30 and 2nd, or Dolphin on 23 and 2nd. All very close to the school. The bad thing is, the private gym are quite expensive. Try the public one first and see if you like it

Hi PNN29,
which gym is the closest to the 26th st dorm? thanx for the info:)

all the gyms I mentioned are close to the school. They are within a few block of each other. Although the public gym is practically next door.

I just received a post card in the mail about NYU housing. It says that check-in is Sunday, August 25th. Orientation begins August 19th- what are we supposed to do until then- live on the street? Anyone know?

Brian..are you sure that wasn't just the general nyu housing card..b/c its a diff check in date for dental students..i will call them on mon to verify...

Yeah- it is the general one. So, dental students are allowed in earlier?

hey.. sonigee... i'm not 100% sure but i think only the dental schoool students are allowed to move in about a week earlier than the others. aug. 18 is that date.
as for the public gym near the dorm... how much is it?? is it free?? it can't be..
