NYU housing/roomate/finaid issues

So after having the NYU packet lying around for a few weeks I finally decided to get started on getting ready for NYU this fall. I am wondering what people are doing about housing (on, off campus, good value places...aka cheap and not too sh*ty). I definitely want to live close to campus, to avoid those 40-min train commutes at 7am. Has anyone started on this?

The other questions is about finaid. FAFSA was done a couple months ago, but nothing since. How do i get some moolah??

The info pack lists 3 nearby apartment complexes that frequently rent to dental students:

Waterside Plaza
Rivergate Apartments
Beaugrand Properties (Kips Bay Towers).

I plan to take a trip out there in early July to find an apartment and move in August 1. I want to avoid paying lots for rent so I'm looking for something not in Manhattan (NJ or Brooklyn).

I called them about Finaid last week and they said that we should exepct the package in about 6 weeks if you already filled out your FAFSA

yea about those appts...i called one, the guy said only 1bd avail as of now, going for $3500-$3900. thats definitely a pass. Ill probably end up somewhere in alphabet city...village would be cool.

But i am thinking of doing oncampus housing D1, then checking something out D2.

how come they said they'd send us housing info the end of march and i haven't received anything? i'm thinking of applying for on-campus residences....anyone else know what's going on?

Wow Rivergate had some serious problems with housing facilities and managements. Can't believe it took that long to inspect and fix... The manager will get karma!!!
