babeeteeth said:I spoke with NYU's admission's director about a week ago and he said that the day I called was the last day of interviews. So I asked him if an interview is required to get in and he said this year yes. Apparently this year was the most competitive year in history for their school. So I don't know why they would send a secondary application out i wouldn't send them $75

INFNITE said:This year is actually the first year they are accepting people without interviews because there are too many applicants.
makwendo said:babteeth, with whom exactly did you speak to at NYU? You say its a 'he' but isn't the admissions director a woman (Eugenia Mejia?)....
also, last week was spring break at NYU and they were NOT interviewing, just reviewing applications. A few other SDN'ers mentioned the same thing (check NYU related posts in the last week or 2) and the Admissions office told me this as well.
I'm not saying you're passing false information around but please give us a name of the male AD. Director who you are referring to if you expect us to believe what you said as true.....
Mysteree said:FIGHTINGSPIRIT-I know this is belated, but congrats on getting into your school of choice. I remember you'd been waiting on Stony Brook. Oh, I wish one of my state schools would pick me up *sigh*
Galen1 said:I recently got an interview invite and was told that they are interviewing people until the end of April. There is room in the class too, it's not just waiting list interviews.
I'm lovin the NYC schools, they give much love to Galen... 2 interviews so far, and both are there 🙂
fightingspirit said:thanks for the congrats. as far as your state schools, well, they are harder to get into than columbia and penn...lol ( i am assuming you're in California).
the following state schools are very hard to get into, or so it seems:
university of washington
UCLA
UCSF
Stony Brook
University of Connecticut
Mysteree said:coolen2000-hmmm...this is unusual, I haven't heard anyone mention anything about a secondary app for NYU. I've been accepted, and I've not heard anything about that. There's a fee that they like to collect in addition to the aadsas fee, but there was no application accompanying that fee.
babeeteeth-You're right people have gotten in w/out interview, that's no rumor
allyzun said:At the open house I attended our group was a mixture of people admitted without an interview and people interviewing. We all received the same folder of materials which included a secondary "application" and all of us were asked to fill it out (it just asked for some biographical info, grades, DATs, etc). It didn't seem hugely important for those of us already accepted but I think they just need it on file if you decide to attend.
btw, I feel ya on the state school thing (I'm living in Kentucky for work right now, but I'm a CA resident)...but honestly, I'm not ready to go back to California yet and I'm looking forward to exploring what else is out there =].
Mysteree said:Hmm..I might've sent a one page thing w/ my deposit. I can't remember. What did you think of the school? The students, faculty? Are you going to go there? or are you still deciding between places, or waiting to hear form somewhere else? You're not a resident of Kentucky just yet? Cause louisville's there, right?
allyzun said:IF there are any current NYU students reading this, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the school was awesome. Great facilities, every student I talked to was very happy and the faculty was friendly and seemed supportive. Being a big school, they have everything there and lots of opportunities for any interests you may have. Also, there's a lot of California resies there so they said they cater to those students in terms of board prep. Overall, I'd be VERY happy attending. THe large numbers does make for a busy environment but then again, I think it's reflective of the city it's in.
