so i just got a secondary app from NYU, does that mean I still have a chance or do they just want my $75? and how full is 2006 class now?

gracias amigos

Secondary app from NYU? I never got that even though i've been accepted. is it a post interview secondary?

I spoke with NYU's admission's director about a week ago and he said that the day I called was the last day of interviews. So I asked him if an interview is required to get in and he said this year yes. Apparently this year was the most competitive year in history for their school. So I don't know why they would send a secondary application out i wouldn't send them $75

People have been getting in without interviews.

babteeth, with whom exactly did you speak to at NYU? You say its a 'he' but isn't the admissions director a woman (Eugenia Mejia?)....

also, last week was spring break at NYU and they were NOT interviewing, just reviewing applications. A few other SDN'ers mentioned the same thing (check NYU related posts in the last week or 2) and the Admissions office told me this as well.

I'm not saying you're passing false information around but please give us a name of the male AD. Director who you are referring to if you expect us to believe what you said as true.....

coolen2000-hmmm...this is unusual, I haven't heard anyone mention anything about a secondary app for NYU. I've been accepted, and I've not heard anything about that. There's a fee that they like to collect in addition to the aadsas fee, but there was no application accompanying that fee.

babeeteeth-You're right people have gotten in w/out interview, that's no rumor

NYU must still be interviewing because I received an interview invite via email last week. I just don't know if it's for a seat or alternate list.

This year is actually the first year they are accepting people without interviews because there are too many applicants.

No, there were several people last year on SDN and also the year before that who were accepted w/o an interview. It did seem unusual though. Maybe they accepted more people this year w/o and interview in the past.

lol...babeeteeth is caught in the act of misinformation!!! lol....and yeah people are being accepted without inTview, including myself.

FIGHTINGSPIRIT-I know this is belated, but congrats on getting into your school of choice. I remember you'd been waiting on Stony Brook. Oh, I wish one of my state schools would pick me up *sigh*

I recently got an interview invite and was told that they are interviewing people until the end of April. There is room in the class too, it's not just waiting list interviews.

I'm lovin the NYC schools, they give much love to Galen... 2 interviews so far, and both are there 🙂

thanks for the congrats. as far as your state schools, well, they are harder to get into than columbia and penn...lol ( i am assuming you're in California).

the following state schools are very hard to get into, or so it seems:

university of washington
UCLA
UCSF
Stony Brook
University of Connecticut

true....both NYU and Columbia are very welcoming. have fun at your NYU inTview and be sure to tour the school after the inTview....you can hang out with the students. the building is gorgious in the inside.....the facilities are top notch and brand new. the basement is awesome too and so is the waiting area. the library is futuristic looking and the neighborhood is a yuppie haven.....enjoy!!!

I just had an interview on 3/13 at NYU. They are definately interviewing for seats, there were like 15 people there, and everybody I spoke to from faculty to students said that they are still accepting. Like FightingS said, the clinics are superb and they're still under construction for new clinics. (They also paid for our lunch, and give money to about 7 interviewers for their morning, interviewing costs money, they wouldnt do it for fun).

You assumed correct, I'm in CA..where competition is insane. You left out UOP 🙂 When people say state schools are easier, I have to laugh, cause that's not true for me 🙁

At the open house I attended our group was a mixture of people admitted without an interview and people interviewing. We all received the same folder of materials which included a secondary "application" and all of us were asked to fill it out (it just asked for some biographical info, grades, DATs, etc). It didn't seem hugely important for those of us already accepted but I think they just need it on file if you decide to attend.

btw, I feel ya on the state school thing (I'm living in Kentucky for work right now, but I'm a CA resident)...but honestly, I'm not ready to go back to California yet and I'm looking forward to exploring what else is out there =].

Hmm..I might've sent a one page thing w/ my deposit. I can't remember. What did you think of the school? The students, faculty? Are you going to go there? or are you still deciding between places, or waiting to hear form somewhere else? You're not a resident of Kentucky just yet? Cause louisville's there, right?

IF there are any current NYU students reading this, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the school was awesome. Great facilities, every student I talked to was very happy and the faculty was friendly and seemed supportive. Being a big school, they have everything there and lots of opportunities for any interests you may have. Also, there's a lot of California resies there so they said they cater to those students in terms of board prep. Overall, I'd be VERY happy attending. THe large numbers does make for a busy environment but then again, I think it's reflective of the city it's in.

Sounds like you had a nice experience interviewing there, I'm glad to hear that 🙂 What I find strange is that it's not so much the students who go to NYU who're bad mouthing it, it's the one's who aren't going there. No other schools seems to have been hit as hard at SDN than NYU, and I for the life of me can't fathom the reasons for it. Everyone agrees, that the facilities are nice, I think the major problem is the sheer size of the class, the cost (but then again USC is just as pricey, but it doesn't get blasted half as much), and perhaps the fact that some people with not so high DAT, and gpa's may have been accepted. But this is pure heresay.
