has anyone heard anything about what's going on with NYU's waitlist? i called the admissions office a couple times, and i hear something different each time. first they told me the list is ranked in june. then they told me it isn't ranked, and the interviewers decide who to pick off of it? has anyone been offered an acceptance since being waitlisted? thanks.

I called today and they told me there was a meeting in the beginning of June. Don't check your mail folks, because this waitlist isn't moving for another month. Sheesh

Are there different NYU waitlist letters?? Did everyone get that short one- just quickly saying you have been waitlisted?

Mine was really short as well -- kind of a "you have been waitlisted as there are lots of qualified people we will take people from it but you might not hear until August" deal

Oh, and have you guys been noticing the high number of people dropping NYU? It seems like everyone who got in there is choosing a "better" school, leading me to believe that there will be tons of waitlist movement! Woohoo!!!

just thought you guys would like to know that a friend of mine just got in on friday. he got an email informing him that he was accepted off the waitlist. no phone call. i think all he did was write a letter of interest about a month ago, without an intention to matriculate.

ValleyGal, I am interested to learn what your souce was for that comment. If anything, the opposite is true. I recently had a meeting with the dean of admissions and he said that there will actually be substantially fewer students taken off the waitlist this year than in prior years. I hope you fair well.

i know someone who got accepted from their waitlist at the end of august!

i also got that short letter from them about being waitlisted. the waiting is killing me. are any of you planning on writing letters to your interviewers? i already wrote a letter of intent, but i'm ready to do anything to get off the waitlist.

i finally gathered the guts to call my interviewer, and while he said he remembered me and all, he said that there really was nothing he could do/write/call. his part of the app process had been closed, and there wasn't an appropriate point of entry for him. he said just to write them a letter...

on a more general waitlist note, i received the following notice from tufts (which i am withdrawing from) which might be generally applicable:
>>
- we do not rank our waitlist. as ppl withdraw from our class, we monitor the demographic composition of the class (geographical distribution, representation of undergraduate institutions, etc.) and admit candidates form the waitlist who would best balance the composition of the class. during the summer moths, the admissions committee does not meet on a scheduled basis as it does during hte academic year; rather, it meets on an ad-hoc basis, reviewing waitlist applications as needed

<<•••••somehow i seriously doubt that demographic distribution business matters for nyu; most everyone there comes from the tri-state area 🙂 ...or so i was told
