So I went home to visit the family this weekend with my baby... At one point on the trip, my parents met up with some close friends of theirs. I grew up with these families. One of them has a son about my age. Nice guy - very smart. We graduated from high school the same year (different schools) and were pretty good friends. (Funny story - senior year, he was so busy studying for exams, he forgot to get a prom date - so he calls me up the night before! Good thing I had an extra dress!
) He eventually went to John Hopkins for undergrad and majored in engineering/computer science. He's working for some company in Texas now.
Anyway, my friend's dad asks me - "So how's the med school process going?" So I tell him that I'm waiting. I haven't heard anything from WashU and I've been waitlisted at SLU...
So my friend's dad says, "Oh, you'll get into WashU. Did you know, my son got a scholarship there?" I thought at first he was talking about undergrad because my friend wasn't in medicine. Nope. It seems that he took the MCAT "just to see" and got (surprisingly) the exact same score that I did. He then applied to WashU got awarded one of their 16 full scholarships. But then he decided not to go because it he wasn't really interested....
My jaw dropped when I heard this. Now, this was probably about 5 or 6 years ago, but it gives me a little more hope now.
