I am soooo scared and nervous right now...I am impatiently doing calculations based on the examinee data that came out today because I am really nervous and I found that only 15.8% of test takes scored an 11 or higher in PS in August compared to 19.1% in April. Also, 15.6% scored 11 or higher on verbal in August compared to 16.5% in April. Finally, 20.5 % scored 11 or higher in bio in August compared to 20.2% in April.

Really, I was looking at the data from 2002, and there, for VR, PS, and BS the percentile that got 11 and above was: 87.4, 86.2, and 83.9.
You're right for this year, but I think long term the test distribution has really changed. With regard to the change in percentile, there is a greater than 10% change for VR alone! (10% of 12.6 is 1.26, and 15.6% got an 11 or above this year!) >10% is huge.

Thank you. Now you have made me feel even more worse. I even thought the August exam was MUCH easier. :scared:

Now the good news is that the increase in MCAT examinees this year is due to Canada. High school used to be 5 years long but a couple of years ago they changed it to 4 years and therefore there will be twice as many Canadians writing the test this year or atleast 5,000 more!

High school 5 years?? wtf? Its 3 years.

I think you are thinking of Ontario, which had 4 years of high school (Grades 10, 11, 12...and 13). They eliminated the Grade 13, but I am pretty sure that happened a couple years ago.

Did you just call Canadians dumb?

Yeah, it didn't make sense, to me either. I think the uptick is from other countries: china, india, pakistan, the UAE, etc. I bet they must think we're idiots now. After we elected W. to another term a bunch of them must have thought they were way smarter than us.
(Hey, it's a joke! please don't flame me.... please?)

Are you sure??! Those numbers sound VERY wrong. You are telling me that close to 88% of takers got over an 11. Man, are we that much dumber?

whoa, you're right! I've got it backwards... the percentile for 11 and above was close to 88%. Thanks!

Hmm....still doesn't make sense. Sorry! Do you have the website?

Folks, I still am VERY confused over the examinee data (2 page PDF file on AAMC) that was released and its relevance to us. Do we have a good curve/bad curve????

I am from Ontario.

High school was 5 years - 9, 10, 11, 12, OAC.
They eliminated OAC, leaving 9, 10, 11, 12 in the current curriculum.

As of now, the 2003 double-cohort high school graduates should be in 3rd year.

You are right and it doesn't seem fair. My reasoning is that they missed their target for the April sitting and brought the 2005 year scores down with a harsher curve for August.

in other words, only the top 12% of test takers got an 11 or above. not the top 88% !

Are you that nervous? I'm sure you did fine.

This August look more bell shaped than last April. Last april had a funky spike in the PS at 7,8. VR looks more bell shaped cuz there are more 6,7's this August and way less 9,10,11.

Writing and BS look the same though.

Overall it looks like less high scores in Aug. I think they try and keep the averages and STDEV the same for each administration, not neccessary the same number of scores.

One more thing, why is the 69(N=37,669) in the top right corner of the sheet enlarged. It that some sort of AAMC humor???

ha ha! i think you're seeing things. That would be hilarious though. I've always wished that the people in charge of the MCAT were secretly 18 year olds.

Did you look??? It is there!!! Look at the size differential of the adjacent 6's!!!

why is that good news?

I meant bad news...cause everyone knows Canadians ruin the curve...why do they have to be so smart, eh?

That is ridiculous if they brought the curve down this time just to fit their "quotas." I am sure it happened though.
