Official 2016-2017 Allergy/Immunology Fellowship Application Cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Knock knock!!
Did anyone get any invite today?
Pretty quiet at my end... I hear crickets chirping. :-(

I got nothing today. Looking back at 2014-2015 thread, it seems the majority of initial invites were out by the end of July. Don't know if this thread is more quiet, or the invites are coming out slower, but hoping for the latter.

I have been stalking the boards waiting! Med-Peds here in the SW, really hoping and sort of suicide matching into one program.....applied to 10 only, pretty much all west coast.
I discussed with a fellow the typical timing of invites and he told me he received the majority in the beginning of August.
I just wish I would get rejections so I could have some closure!

So if we haven't heard anything, there's still hope?

No invites from my end either. Hoping things change in the next few days o_O

I applied and have not heard from JHU since they sent out their 'we received your application and will get back to you once we've completed our review process' response. Congrats on Montefiore! I was hoping to get an invite from them  hopefully they will send out more next week.

I would reach out to any contacts you have. Otherwise, it is kinda early to be calling programs since some are still reviewing applications and you don't know if they would call you anyways. Just ensure you applied to enough programs across various tiers so you have good backup

I applied to 45 places, I left off a couple of the top programs and some of the ones that I knew wouldn't take a DO from a mid tier MD program. I have a lot of research and couple posters and publications.

No matter what I tell myself the next 4 months is going to be terrifying

Sincerely, with obvious research experience and application to 45 programs, you will be fine. Less than 15-20 programs have sent out IVs so although the process of awaiting interviews will be nerve-racking, you should be fine in the end.

Heard from Univ of Arizona last week and then USC this week. Any other CA schools?

I know of at least 2 programs that won't send out invites until sept, late sept. Also, when I submitted my app, I did so "late"' like mid August. So I called all the programs to tell them I had just submitted it. Really it was my way to say, "Hey, here I am!" And I got an interview invite from all of them by the end of the week, and the invites started rolling in the next day! So if you have a late letter, or submitted late, or whatever, a friendly call to a program is fine. Also, as long as they are done professionally, repeat calls can show a program that you are highly interested in them, and can be helpful to you. Just don't be annoying, cuz no one likes annoying, and seriously, one call is not annoying, so don't worry. Also, avoid malignant programs. You can tell when you interview, they are the programs with fellows that are elusive when asked about things pertaining to program, unhappy looking fellows, etc. Or just ask around to other applicants. Matching to the wrong place means years of potential misery.

Hey guys!

Interviews so far:

Johns Hopkins
Ohio State
Univ. of Cincinnati
University of Washington (Seattle)
Henry Ford

Good luck to everyone :)

Thanks, DoctorWho. This is helpful. Could you kindly name a few programs that you think are malignant? Or would you rather name programs that you think are awesome!? :) thanks!
