A lot of good info in there, even this early on -- a lot of people end up falling into these "tiers" in terms of receiving interviews and it's a good way to gauge how competitive your application is based on the invites you've received already and what other interviews to realistically expect for the rest of the season.

This is good advice, and the reason I'm not expecting to hear anything for at least another week.
 
How many interviews have most people received so far? Getting really nervous seeing the long list of programs that have apparently sent out interviews already...

I'm only sitting at 2; technically 3 if you count my home program but I think they're usually obligated to give one out lol. But yeah, def nerve racking so far...

I'll probably have to cancel some interviews and would like to elicit some advice on the tentative ranking of the following programs, not considering location? The only Hem/onc area I had real exposure to is hematological malignancy so I'd like to say I'm interested in hem malignancy but also want to keep other options open. Also feel benign hematology interesting. Would like to practice in academia at least for the first few years. Any advice is appreciated.

Mid-Atlantic: Thomas Jefferson, University of Maryland, Mount Sinai, NYU, UMDNJ, Georgetown"

I like this approach to thinking through programs and I think for the most part this ranking holds true. Ultimately the decision on which programs you rank highly will be based on your belief in the program's ability to train you to become an academic malignant hematology doctor, if that's your intent. For programs not listed on this tiered apporach look at the both faculty curecurrein place and fellows that have trained there to get an idea about their track record for training the type of physician you want to become. Personally there are programs in the lower tiers thati would rank more highly just because of my particular interests and there are programs not listed above that I would interview at ahead of some these as well. SDN traditionally reports close to 110-120 programs (it was ~120 last year, ~100 the year before, and ~110 the year before that) by the close of the season, so we are definitely a third of the way in, coming up to almost halfway.

Scary thought, honestly.
