Hello, Great Pros Nation :),

I’m applying this year for a prosthodontics residency program in the U.S.

Therefore, since PASS is opening this week, I would like to start early by creating this thread to help us all during the application of this cycle. I copied Endo’s template, so everyone can use it here to benefit us all. (You can modify it if needed)

Also, I would encourage the former and current residents to share their thoughts about the interview processes and their experiences in their programs. (especially the programs that no one talked about recently in the previous posts, like Rutgers, NYU, Loma Linda, etc.)

We are looking forward to having great content.
Good Luck to all!

After you receive an interview, please bold the school and type in the interview dates in parentheses ( )
Ex) University of SDN - Invites sent (July 8th)
And when the Spots are filled, switch the color to Blue and type in "Spots filled"

I'm not really sure why, but they are kind of weird. On their website, they did not mention anything unusual. They are asking to apply through PASS and they are not even on PASS.
I remember back in March there was virtual booths for all the pros programs and I spoke to one of the residents at Columbia , but he did not mention anything about them not going to open this year.

I have spied on endo's sdn, and they have recieved many interview invitation already.

Have anyone recieved any prostho invitation yet?

No haven't received any yet. I believe the non-match pros programs start to send out invites end of July/early August.

Endo is all non-MATCH and the earliest specialty to be done by far. They will be done with the selection cycle by end of August 2022 for starting in July 2023 (almost a full year ahead).

Tennessee, Ohio state (I think), stonybrook
Not Ohio state (their tuition significantly offsets the small stipend they give). Stonybrook, montefiore, UCLA, University of Rochester, Uconn (paid but there is also an equal amount of tuition based). Typically any of the other programs might pay a smaller stipend, but have tuition greater than the stipend.

I believe it is only Texas A&M and San Antonio that require it.

Out of curiosity how many programs are you guys applying to? I'm going for 8 mostly on the east coast

I applied to 10! Just because I wanted to only apply to programs I would go to. Also, question. If anyone applied to UF, for the supplemental application, did you re-submit your letters of recommendation or are the ones in PASS enough?

Do not apply to the university of iowa prosth program. it’s a toxic program. International students are treated like garbage. This is a well intended warning :)
I like your initiative. I would like the current, previous residents or anyone who have any thoughts about any program to let us know about the pros and cons. By doing this we can all help each other to choose the right program or at least we won't be surprised later. This will be helpful for this and the next cycles as well.

Hello and congratulations. When did you have your materials submitted? I had mine submitted and complete quite early (June) so I am hoping they are still reviewing applications.

Thank you

Do you guys know if schools submit all their interviews the same day or if they do multiple days? Also for people who have gotten interviews, when did you submit your application/have supplementals done?

that depend from school to school, some of them will sent out interviews for all the applicant on the same day some of them not. for me I got for now only one interview in Indiana, I submitted my application late June. but this week I submitted more application, some school prefer to submit your application early as UIC, some school do not care they view all the application until the did line and treat them equally

Anyone knows how to contact the programs at Rutgers and Marquette? I have been looking for the coordinators' emails, but I could not find any thing.

There are also prosth programs at the Veterans Affairs hospitals. You have to be a citizen but all VA programs are paid, which is definitely helpful during these tough times. Most treatments are fully covered at the VA and you never run out of patients. I am currently attending VA West Los Angeles and if you guys have any specific questions regarding this program, I would be happy to answer. Best of luck to you all! :)

What is your surgical and experience of your program. Do you get to place any of your own implants. Thanks.

You get to place your own implants. It really ranges from a resident to resident and depends on your desire and comfort level. I’ve seen as little as 10. I placed ~50 during my gpr so I’m not really too worried about placing many in my prosth residency. This month alone I will be placing 4-5 implants, which are all part of my full mouth rehabs.

If have to compare with other programs though, our program is not really as surgically oriented. I had some surgery experience prior to residency and the extent of surgical experience i had in pros residency is stage 1/2 implant surgery, extractions and ridge preservation, and crestal approach sinus lift/bump.
