I just called and they changed their date from feb. 19 to THIS FRIDAY!!!

okay guys, all letters are supposedly going out this friday. frantz is coming to speak to the premeds at my school tonight and im gonna try and read his face when i introduce myself.

ill tell you guys how it goes.

    good luck yall!

just remember, they only send out about 160 acceptances on friday and then pull people individually off the waitlist as people withdraw.

this way they have a super high matriculation rate.

I'll probably get rejected since my interview went very bad, but it's still nice to know that the COUNTDOWN IS ON BABY!

i remember there was one guy there that day who was asked to solve some math problem and couldn't do it!

in all your interview travails and conversations, ever notice that all the really beautiful p&s applicants are interviewed by frantz? i mean, without fail, everytime i see a stunning columbia applicant at a school, they say they interviewed with frantz.

did you guys look in the p&s bulletin they gave us? under admissions, frantz' first line states:

"One of the most rewarding aspects of being an admissions officer is the opportunity it affords of meeting a large number of unusually able and attractive people."

    i thought that was hilarious.

let's start a thread, since i am taking 3 courses and really have absolutely nothing better to do with my time, of who interviewed with whom.
and if you interviewed with frantz, also include your telephone number.

    i'll start:

    john brust (1)

No wonder my interview wasn't with Frantz! :D Oh well, to tell ya the truth, I am totally chill about P&S these days...I would love to go there but I will definitely get by very well without them. So, we shall see...

I also had Dr. Lisio. Very strange interview! He started with "so do you have any questions for me?" the entire interview lasted like 20 minutes.

Since I interviewed last year with Dr. Frantz but not this one, I guess I must have gotten worse looking since.

yeah, my interview was also kinda weird. we didn't talk about me at all. it was just how i felt about war and random stuff like that. granted it lasted 1.5 hours, but it seems that the interviewers there already know you from your app and feel it's redundant to ask you the same questions. i am also getting the feeling there that a lot of the interviewers feel that interviewing so many applicants is kinda superfluous, so they may not take it that seriously. i mean, bare in mind that a few years ago columbia interviewed ALL applicants.

It might be true that Dr. Frantz interviews all of the bee-uuu-tee-ful applicants, but I know for a fact that all of the applicants that he interviews are not beautiful. Hence: moi. :D

I interviewed with Frantz......I liked him.....he is really cool......but I told him I liked jazz much more than classical music....and I pointed out how jazz transcends conventional western counterpoint....I don't know if that went over well with him........but I was just being honest...!!!

I heard Frantz also interviews almost everyone from Ivy League schools. Oh well, I interviewed with Lisio. Just like Weeble and Bomback, my interview with him was strange.

    Two things:

    1) Our beloved MorningLight is definitely an example, not an exception, as Choker noted. :D

    2) Is it really true that they select who will be interviewed by Frantz and who will not? I think that's BS (unfair) if it's true. Anyone agree?

I interviewed with Dr. Frantz. I go to big state U, the antithesis of ivy league, so I think the ivy theory may not hold up. I hope he didn't pick me to interview by the way I look. That would be a little creepy. (I'll pretend to be interested in rugby, but there's a certain line I'm not crossing!) Just kidding though. He seemed like a cool guy. Can't wait to find out if I got in.

I had Dr. Lisio also. My interview was strange to say the least. First he told me that I shouldn't be worried if I make the waitlist (very optimistic!)Needless to say, not expecting good news from them.

i just ran into frantz 10 seconds ago. he was about to make a speech to the premeds at my school about P&S and med school in general, and i was gonna ask him about anything_ when do we get the answers!_ but my dean grabbed me right before and told me not to "hijack" him. so now i am sitting in my room, feeling somewhat foolish for having almost perhaps done something inappropriate.

    goddamn i want to know!!!

I'm going to add on my interview with Dr. Franz (and sorry, no phone # --I'm pretty average looking anyway) . I too had kind of a strange interview--not much about me, a lot about how I spent my time in New York before the interview and lot about what great athletes he's got in the class. However, not a bad experience overall, just not much to help them make a decision. I can't wait to get the wait over with at this point.

I really think that Columbia doesn't really care much about the interview. I remember when i interviewed 2 doctors interviewed 6 people, and they had scheduled each interviewee a 30 minute time slot which included time for the doctor to review their applications. So you had about 20-25 minutes of interviewing time!

Geez, I know it's easier said than done, but I think if I was asked to solve a math problem during any of my interviews I would just politely walk out and withdraw my app on the spot. Seriously, that's quite rediculous that you were subject to that. Are you a math major or something? How did the conversation end up in you being asked to do math? I still can't believe it...

Also, I was unaware of this, but I heard P&S is going to be pass/fail starting next year (for MS1 only)? Is it true? If so, that's great.

I'm really curious as to how important the interview is at different schools. Maybe I'll start a thread.

My interview was way back in September, so Columbia's been in the back of my mind for 5 or 6 months now!

Awwwww, shucks, you guys!!! Jargon & choker, you know how to make a girl smile. :)

Choker, don't feel foolish about your near "hijacking" of Dr. Frantz...with how long and arduous this process is, I think that most of us have considered something similar at one time or another.

Jargon, if accepted to Columbia, will you attend? I remember that you were concerned about being far from your girlfriend.

Well, actually I am very proud when it comes to math, guess that makes me out to be a major nerd, but I don't really care. (And yes I am a math/physics major.) So anyway, out of nowhere, the guy starts drawing these circles on a plane and asks me some question about them. And so I was really surprised and I was getting nervous so I just made up some solution (which in hindset, was correct) and then he just went on about how to solve it in another way. He just interrupted me and was like "well if you do this, and assume this and that you will..." Anyhow, I just stared at it and I smiled... made for an unnerving interview, but nonetheless makes for an interesting pre-med conversation piece. :)

OK, seriously, how can the Columbia interview NOT count for a lot? Don't they interview something like 1000 applicants? Assuming they accept about 200 to fill their class, how can they choose who to accept? doesn't make sense to me...

Have any post interviewers received rejections? I just want to see if they are sending out two batches of rejections, one for pre interviewers and another for post. I wish I played rugby. I also wish that I didn't tell Frantz that I liked jazz more than classical music....and then went into how parochial western music theory is....that was dumb......where's my thin envelope?

i interviewed with dr frantz too... also got a very weird interview. we barely talked about me, instead we talked about the excessive flag-burning in berkeley, music, and a host of strange off-the-wall topics

i gotta agree with the theory that the interview doesn't count very much... you hear all these stories of people that interviewed for 10 minutes and that got in... and people that talked with frantz for an hour and a half and got rejected <shrug>

Does anyone else find it SOOOOOO annoying that we should technically recieve our Columbia letters on the 18th, but because it is President's Day and there is no mail we have to wait one more day?! That drives me crazy..

i highly doubt all rejections have been sent out. no one i know has been rejected from there - as much as i'd like it to happen, we can't all be in the chosen 160. p and s accepts only one class and then fills from the waitlist....

well i'm glad other people found the columbia experience weird too. it was my first interview, i paid a considerable amount out of my paltry post-college salary to get to nyc from san fran, just to have a 30 minute chat about art, art history, the trends in new art museums, american history, and maybe a few things about my life story with dr. brust aka abe lincoln, who wouldn't shut up long enough for me to convince him how great i was. it made me think my file bored him too much to go into it so he just picked fun topics to talk about. threw me for a loop when in my next interview they actually asked questions about me.

Hi, amp, welcome to SDN!! :) My interview at Columbia was a little weird, too, with my interviewer alternating between very relaxed chatting with me about music to ramrod straight, professional demeanor and health care system questions.

Getting back to the countdown, folks, this was posted today (Wed. 2/13) on the other Columbia thread:

sorry about the confusion I caused yesterday. I called back today and got a very plausible response this time. The Committee is meeting today and all day w/Dr frantz to make all final decisions. these decisions will be mailed out on friday in one big batch...that is, acceptance, rejections and waitlists will all be sent out this friday! mind u, very few people actually get ooutright rejected...most get waitlisted!
ok, there it is! im nervous as a buttercake in the springtime!

And dammit, I'm leaving town this Saturday for almost a week!!! Guess I'll be calling home a lot!

You guys on the east coast are lucky. You will get the mail Friday/Saturday. Out here in the west we have to wait till Monday/Tuesday.
