wassup.... so far it looks like i'll be going there.

glad you started this thread!

😀

Ckat, have you thought about housing? I'm definately staying on campus the 1st two years to avoid the hassels of renting, but I haven't heard anything about when we are allowed to move in. I'd like to move in three to four days before orienation starts to settle in, scope out the area, and head into the city before school related activities start rolling.

I'm really exicted about school this fall. It's going to be a lot of work, I know, but it will be fun, too. I looking forward to meeting my classmates.

-Jesse

PS. what's your current situation (waitlists, etc)?

hey gabes.

i'm actually going to live offcampus with my girlfriend either in whiteplains or in tarrytown. she'll be going to school in manhattan and she'll need easy access to train.

i'm not sure about the dorm situation, but we should be getting packets and financial aid stuff in june.

i'm definitely looking forward to meeting everyone, but i'm also looking forward to just chillin at the beach this summer. 😀

as for my situation, i'm waitlisted at columbia, stony brook and tufts.

how bout u? are you definitely going to nymc?

I'm in. Hope to live off campus with my wife. I'm psyched I can chuck a bunch of my premed junk that I will no longer be needing.

Can't wait to meet you all.

hey conure! welcome to the thread!

where do you think you're going to live off campus ?

hope to meet you and everyone else in a few months!

ckat,

I'm pretty sure I'm going to NYMC. Pitt has waitlisted me, and Drexel hasn't responded to a late interview (4/29). I'd go to Pitt if accepted (they have a LOI from me) and its a coin toss between NYMC and Drexel. I'm leaning towards Drexel b/c of the curriculum, but like the location and connectedness of NYMC's campus/living facilities.

Good luck with Columbia...

hey gabes.

i got into drexel back in january... i really liked it there, but ultimately turned it down for nymc b/c of location.

good luck with the pitt waitlist. hopefully all of these waitlists will move soon.

i really do hope some of these waitlists work out, but i'm glad that nymc has consistent strong match lists. 😀

well, good luck, hope to meet you soon.

Well, I'll be joining you folks in Valhalla soon enough! I'm from Seattle, so I'm leaving in under 2 months!! I talked to the housing office, and they said that student housing would be open the Saturday before Orientation, so Aug. 2nd. Looking forward to meeting you all...

jhawk,

glad to see another NYMCer post to the thread. have you heard anything interesting about the first week's orientation activities. I wonder if they are planning something in the city during the week?

Sorry guys and gals at NYMC. As you can tell from my new signature, I staying in Pittsburgh for med school. Best of Luck!

congrats gabes!

what?!! where is everybody? Is no one going to NYMC????

I'll be there with bells on... can't wait.

bump

This must be the slowest Official: X class of 2007 thread!!!!

on the NYMC waitlist.....
I called last week, they said that there have been a lot of withdrawals so the waitlist will be moving...
the first review//notifications begin in june...
so hopefully ill get some good news.

I'm in the same situation as you bigredstress. hopefully, we'll get some good news soon!

Just discovered the forums on SDN a few days ago...

So how do you folks feel about going to NYMC? In particular, I mean, as opposed to medschool in general.

See you guys in a couple of months!
(and good luck to all of y'all still waiting)

I noticed that there are more declined acceptances than usual to NYMC than other med schools, and I'd think it's because it just so darned expensive to go there. Anyone else notice this?

If you go to the NYMC website, they estimate the budget at > $50K per year! Yikes! 😱

Here's praying for a good financial aid package...

I don't think NYMC is more expensive than other private med schools... I know that Drexel is about the same and GWU is alittle bit more.. and even other private schools in the west coast even are about that much.. but it is much cheaper that SUNY.. that's public though.

Really? I was under the impression that NYMC was the most expensive private med school....

Well, that's neither here nor there, i suppose.

I believe that Tufts (for instance) comes to about $4,000 more per year in tuition costs...

This is before living expenses are factored in, but I can't imagine that Boston is significantly less expensive than Westchester, if it is less at all.

In the end though, private schools all average out to around $50-55k a year, as far as I can tell. And if you're already borrowing close to a quarter of a million dollars in loans, what's another couple of thou here or there, really?

any waitlist news? anyone call to find out?

I just got off the waitlist at my first choice school so I'm giving up my NYMC spot. I think I would have been happy at NYMC but in the end my state school works better for me. I hope you guys get some good news soon.

On the price note. I looked at housing up and down the Hudson Valley near school and its really expensive. I'm coming from Boston so I know high housing prices. Off campus around NYMC commands prices close to NYC prices because you are commuting distance to the city. Because of this their yearly budget is higher eventhough their yearly tuition is online with most other privates.

i'll be withdrawing as well, probably on monday after i confirm my state school has gotten my deposit and other forms. good luck!
