How did A&M send an invite out from the future?
Back To The Future GIF

Did anyone just receive an e-mail from Texas A&M just today that their application is completed? I submitted my application on opening day with LoR completed the week after. Got completion e-mails from other schools the following week. I wonder why Texas A&M sent out the completion e-mail this much later after sending out interviews already.
Yes just received exactly that and also submitted my application 4 weeks ago

Didn't A&M already send invites past couple days? Why are they sending this mass confirmation email today...

Did anyone get an application complete email from University of the Pacific? And to send them a photo

this type of stuff has happens in every cycle
Applications are reviewed and invites sent but someone forgets to press app reviewed or received button that triggers mass email

When can we expect NYU Langone or VA to send out emails?! 🙁 the waiting is giving me anxiety.

The VA sent out invites at the end of May for tomorrow.
Langone Brooklyn usually sends invites out ~1st week of July (historically speaking) - Edit: I was wrong

I have an interview for July 1st but that is also the start date of my AEGD and the AEGD administration are refusing to let me go to the interview. Does anyone have advice on how to proceed? I'm so frustrated with this already stressful process to now also have this logistical challenge 😭

Who is the "AEGD administration"? If it's the PD, I would talk to whoever is above them to let them know the gravity of this interview for your future as a practitioner. You are going to be an endodontist, not an AEGDontist. This is a big deal - you need to go to that interview.
Option 1: Go anyway, ask for forgiveness later. Option 2: yolo, drop your AEGD and pray you get into endo this cycle

Edit: Also no hate on AEGD - I did one and loved it. I recommend everyone do an AEGD before specializing.

Why are they not letting you go? Did you tell them endo residency doesn’t start until July 2026? If I was the AEGD director I would encourage my resident to… pursue their dreams LOL

I would inquire to your program about the reasoning why. Then explain to the Endo program the situation, and they should help you out.
They are just being very strict about the orientation date and not being able to take time off for the first week of the program.

The administration was first program coordinators and now the PD. Who would be above the PD? I don't think I can do option 2 haha but now I'm regretting asking for the time off instead of just feigning illness. I asked one last time as a hail Mary but I think I may have to reach out to the endo program to explain the situation. I just feel like that's almost the same thing as turning down the interview all together.

Do program directors communicate behind the scenes on who they are inviting to interviews?

I was thinking the same thing. With almost 50 programs, It's interesting how interview date is different from others

NYU Langone BK invites today for july16/17 interviews

How many did you apply to? I think for a strong candidate to have a decent chance of getting in, one would have to apply to ~10+ schools.
Agreed. I applied twice. Got 2 interviews 1st time applying and a ton during the second. Only difference I applied to a lot more schools the second time around. Don’t hold yourself back apply to as many as financially possible in my opinion.

I feel so depressed. 2nd time applying, this time I did several schools, haven't heard back anything. I want to be an endodontist so bad.

Its too early to lose hope. Many programs (especially the ones which take larger number of applicants) haven’t sent out interviews yet and will send in the next few weeks. Stay strong! We’re all in this together

Update for anyone who may get into a similar situation: I reached out to the program (NYU) and they offered me July 22 as an alternative date. Today, my AEGD PD emailed saying that if I was not offered an alternative date, I can request PTO. At this point, I don't think it would be wise to try and flip things again on NYU and try for the July 1st interview date. The back and forth has been frustrating but at least they gave an alternate interview date!

When was the VA email sent out? Also for those that got in when did you get an email that app was complete? Jw!

What rank is generally required to guarantee an interview for endo nowadays?

Again, this is a generalization based on previous posts and outstanding candidates rank may differ. This application process is random and competitive, high ranking alone will not guarantee an interview.
For sure. 5 years out and top 30%. No interviews yet. You definitely need more than just rank and experience.

I'm hopeful rank isn't everything. I'm 2 years out lower 30% of my class because I didn't think I wanted to specialize in school. Since school I've learned I wanted to do endo, I've gone to AAE, I volunteer 3 hours a week at my local dental school in their predoc endo dept, and I've done in the ballpark of 400 root canals ranging from retreats to curvy molars. Hopefully they will overlook my poor GPA and rank, especially since I had my first year in COVID and people cheated like crazy on tests, and then my clinic was pass/fail.

From what I have seen, it depends on clinical experience level. New grads (<3 yrs out) are usually in the very top (~10%), but seasoned dentists (~5+ yrs out) typically are in the top 30%.

Yeah my suggestion is no matter what your stats are apply as widely as you can and be open-minded about going wherever you get an offer. The whole process has felt very random so far

I’d leave out discussing doing retreats on any statements or interview conversations. That would open up a world of questions I’d want to ask. If you couldn’t answer them I’d want to know why you were doing retreats then, and if you could answer them I’d wonder if you had too much experience to undo. Experience is definitely a good thing, but playing up the endo experience isn’t necessarily. You just want to have done enough to be able to talk about it, understand it, and also know you have a ton to learn. They’re going to want to undo most of what you have learned and build you from the ground up. Just an opinion from someone who has been around, but that also doesn’t reflect every PD/ Chairs philosophy.

Just a little perspective of someone who’s in endo residency now. I graduated dental school and never matched to a gpr program even with a decent gpa and top 25% rank. Somehow I was able to post match a few months before star date and then I stayed a second year at my gpr program to do more endo and apply to endo. I didn’t get in my first time despite 5 interviews. The next year I finally got in while in private practice. The one thing that prevented me from matching into gpr and even my first year of endo was undoubtedly my interview skills. If you’re a bad talker and bad speaking under pressure u gotta prep for these interviews weeks if not months in advance and come up with answers to every question they will ask you and frame it in a way that shows you will be an excellent resident who’s willing to learn and eager to help around the clinic. I spent about 1 month prepping for interviews between gpr and starting private practice as I didn’t have my license yet. Killing the interview is THE most important thing you can do to get in. Most programs only take 10% of interviewees. Don’t underestimate it, and seek professional interview prep to help if you need to, it’s worth the money. I used Dr Darwin and it was worth every penny but I’m sure there are other resources you can use. Good luck everybody

No, getting an interview is THE most important thing. You can’t get in if they don’t even look at you no matter your speaking skills. This means you have to get their attention via visiting/application etc... Now I will say good interview skills can definitely help and give you the edge over other interviewees. There is a thing as far as over prepping and sounding robotic like in your answer or arrogant. It can make you see less genuine. Having a reliable person give good feedback can help. I would want to look for a team player that exhibits humility and is teachable. Btw don’t tell me that you are teachable. The hard part is you have to emit those qualities without directly saying them.

What would you do if you are not getting any interviews?

Have an honest evaluation of yourself to see if you are really competitive. How can I improve my app? See if after the cycle you can get a PD to give you honest feedback. There are outlier cases of people with lower GPA and stats getting in, but the reality is it’s very difficult. While it’s uplifting to hear these stories, I feel like a lot of them give false hope. There’s countless posts on this thread and past years explaining how people can make their application more competitive. Not trying to be a Debbie downer, but it just is what it is.

In your opinion, do you think PDs already have an idea on who they are going to accept before the interview?
I do like you answer here^ I'm really hoping to just go in there and be my authentic self. I do think "over studying" before can make applicants come off as calculated.

I heard it is costly. is it worth to spend $3000 to 5000 on that training ?
