Official Pulmonary Critical Care 2017-2018 Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So in that above scenario, if a program requests 4 LOR but only 3 are in at the time of submission on 7/15 with a fourth one pending, does that application get screened and turned down in that case?
No way to know.

Just submit.

Guys,
Just like last year's thread can we organize our interviews into the following categories.
It will also benefit future readers of our thread.
AMG
IMG US citizen/equivalent
IMG needing visa

Applying to CCM alone (my first preference) and pulm+crit

USIMG- citizen
Step I 215
Step II 243
Graduating from small Community Program

Some posters here and there - nothing too major
Chief Resident
Supposedly great letters

Good luck to all.

Guys I know is super early in the process but from the thread last year I think we should keep the format they used to keep track of interviews / rejections, etc. Just place your name and the program that communicated with you.

Please try to copy the list, add your invites in BOLD, and paste it into your post. Thanks.

How many places did everyone apply? I'm an US-IMG with publications/posters, university program. Applied to 27. Just couldn't see myself living in a lot of places.

I hope I get in this year... Went to a international medical school, residency in New York, chief, hospitalist took up a fellowship in ID at a prestigious university in the west coast. I applied twice to pulm crit in the past i didnt match figured I would take an academic fellowship in my weakest subject ID so I wasnt out of the academic world. I just hope it doesnt look bad.

I know it's not easy to generalize, but when applying to both PCCM and CCM-- do you guys recommend "cutting out" the pulmonary components out of your PS and focusing on just critical care. Or do you think the CCM programs really couldn't care less. Thanks

I did not cut the pulmonary component neither from PS nor from the LORs and matched CC

Do people here know which programs are especially big on point of care ultrasonography and echocardiography? Some programs I know of encourage their fellows to partake in the echocardiography boards as well. I can imagine the "big academic" places are this way. Though I have heard stories of certain "big" programs that do not routinely use ultrasonography outside of procedural guidance.

NS-LIJ ( Paul Mayo ) is huge in this

I got a message saying my application was reviewed and that they have additional typed essay questions for me to respond to and that they would be in touch. Geisinger in PA. FYI in case the timing of this information is helpful for anyone.

FYI email from RWJ in NJ that application was received.

I feel really out of date with how ERAS works. Did you get your invite through ERAS, or through direct email from the program?

Possibly silly question, but are we supposed to have interview broker accounts?

Is there a future trend of separation of Pulmonary from CCM? Some PCCM physicians I am speaking to claim this is the future trend.

I've heard the same too. For example, the Mayo Clinic now has a separate pulm only fellowship, even though they already have ccm only as well as pulm/ccm fellowships. I assume the movement toward closed ICUs might likewise contribute to the trend.

Another University of Maryland. I applied specifically to the NIH track (I don't know if people care/want to hear if the invite was for a specific track? Didn't know if that is useful for you all, but thought it might be?)

I was also kind of surprised by how few interview slots there were. I had a choice between 2 days (there was one other day that was already full), but maybe they don't interview a lot of people for the track?

Still waiting on my program director to finish his letter, and one more letter from the APD of the local critical care program. Other than that the money is spent, the application is sent and I try to keep myself sane and distracted.

I'm applying as a US citizen IMG (went to University of Queensland in Australia) so things are never guaranteed.

Do programs send invitation to interview just one time or a few times during the season?

IMG with no VISA required> Applied to 60 programs. Didn't get any. I am wondering about what the typical time frame CC/PCCM programs send interview offer? Thanks
