just thought we should start a list of SDNers, especially those who applied during the 2002-2003 cycle, to help read personal statements for those applying during the 2003-2004 cycle. I know there were a few SDNers from the 2001-2002 cycle who gave me some good feedback for my 2002-2003 application that really helped, and I just thought we should pass on the favor.

Yeah, I know my dawg oldman started a thread for this, but it's pretty outdated by now. IIRC, he started that thread in July or August of 2002 - by now many of those people are probably swamped as MS1's, just like oldman.

i think it'd be helpful if the volunteers listed a brief description of themselves so applicants could know who is a similar type of applicant.

i.e. : year in college, non trad, took year off, extensive research, extensive volunteer, career change, urm, hometown, etc.

I think Yogi has a good point. Let's list a brief bio of everybody so people can have the option of sending their essay to those with similar experiences. Also a nice way to find those with similar experiences who have gone before.

I'm wondering if it would help the 2004 applicants to be able to see a few examples of personal statements that others have written. I'm OK shaing my personal statement to a few people, but it is a little...um...personal and I'd like to keep a shred of anonymity. Would people be willing to PM or email me their PS's for me to strip names off of and assemble into single group to be able to PM/email to people looking for examples? That way people can see some examples of PS's yet not know exactly who they came from (I would keep the names of donors secret, although I might end up finding out...you could always PM them to me if you were careful about things like paragraph breaks). The major risk I see is plagarism, although I suspect anybody who needs to plagarize a PS has little hope of admission anyway.
