Lets discuss about how we did on the Self-Assessment package...

So far I did G Chem, O Chem and Physics...

Scores so far:
Gen Chem:- 98% (Average was 66%)
Orgo Chem:- 96% (Average was 61%)
Physics:- 93% (Average was 54% !!)
Biology:- (Will do tomorrow)
Verbal:- (Dont know when I'll do it yet)

And I'm really pissed about the Physics because it took me forever to do some questions and few of the questions were WTF 😕 😕

Physics: 87%

Verbal: 81%

I'm not really sure how to feel about these scores to be completely honest. The self assessments definitely did a good job of making me realize places that I need to touch up for my content as I finish up these last 3 weeks before my test.

Those score are not too bad. (Average for Physics is very low its about ~54%)
Have you taken any FL yet?

..your scores are fine.

You're crazy if you're disappointed by low/high 90s on the self-assessments.

Let's just say you see a similar percentage on an MCAT. 95% of 52 = >49 questions right.. i.e. you're looking at a 13-14.

n=1 here but if you are looking at anything about 85%s for the SAs in each subsection, you're in good shape to hit 13+.

yeah but SA are untimed so I feel like scores are skewed a bit.

So far I've taken Bio and Gen Chem.

Bio: 81% (ouch, and I thought Bio was my strong suit...)
Gen Chem: 90%

I took a bit under 3 hrs for the bio and 2 hours 15 min for Gen Chem. pleasantly surprised with chem since I thought I was gonna do badly. Disappointed with bio though. Gonna take physics today and spread the verbal out over a week. Probably gonna skip orgo.

To OP, your scores are awesome!

thanks. Just starting Bio right now. Will update the post once I'm done.

Wow. All you guys make me feel like *******. I did only bio and scored a 66%. The average BS score is a 10, so I guess I can improve.

When is your MCAT?.. If you still have 30+ days..you can workout the kinks and improve.

And besides the point of this thread is not to make people feel bad but give them an idea of how SA % compare with actual AAMC's FL and real MCAT score.

Decided to take the orgo SAP after all. I don't want to leave any stone unturned, even if the current BS is almost all bio. What did you guys think about the orgo SAP?

It wasn't all that bad. Most of the answers were already in the passages. It wasn't as intense as TBR made it seem.

No, I know it's not to make anyone feel bad. It just sucks! Unfortunately, I only have 3 weeks until go time. It's okay, though. I'd be happy with just a 10 on Bio.

I'd say Bio is probably the least useful out of all the SA's given how much that section has changed in recent years.

But again, 66% is pretty decent and probably in line for around a 10. All depends on timing, of course.

I agree. It's different than BR and everything else. I'm doing okay in BR (60-65%), so I think what the SA did for me was make me aware where I was weak in general recall of background.

Yea, that to me is the best thing about the SAs. It's not really about predictive value but it does give a VERY good picture of topics you are weak content wise.

I just bought it,

Going to keep this updated

Did Physics...I got a lot of "easy" questions wrong. So that's something I need to look at. A lot of questions involving simply reading the passage. It's also late. But that's not an excuse

Okay maybe it's because it's late

44% on identification of main idea which is 21% below the average

nice

I'm halfway through Physics

I ordered it because of the score report you get at the end

I can confirm what topics I think I'm bad at

Then hit up the TPRH SW

Plus it's nice practice. I'm forcing myself to do it timed. 7 minutes per passage. I'm also using it to keep track of math mistakes I make when trying to answer the questions

Scored an 86% on the Orgo SAP. Finished in about 1.5h, but even if I took 2-3 hours, I don't think I could have scored any better since there were just some things I didn't know.

Going to take my first AAMC FL on Monday. Hoping my scores on the SAPs actually mean something.

For people that have already taken the SAPs, do you mind sharing your FL scores?

I'll be taking the FL hopefully tomorrow. Depending on how the review goes today.

I scored on the average again for chemistry! This time I'm happy though because I had a tremendously horrible time with the PS section last time (got a 6) and my goal is an 8. The best part is that the only sections I did terrible in were solutions (always my weakest point) and electrochemistry. I hadn't done any electrochemistry review yet (for those wondering: I forgot I didn't read that chapter in BR and thought I was done).

91% on Gen Chem SA. It was pretty easy, so I'm kinda disappointed in getting 4 wrong because of dumb errors. The other 5 I'll give to the AAMC, though.

AAMC 3 12/13/13, AAMC 4 12/9/12. Taking AAMC 7 tomorrow!

88% on Orgo. Pissed cause I made some dumb mistakes here and there... But a lot of the alkene chemistry kind of took me by surprise. I thought that alkenes were removed from the MCAT, so I hadn't taken much heed to studying stuff like Diels-Adler and a lot of the elimination stuff... But I felt like there was A LOT of alkene chemistry on there as under "The Covalent Bond".

Ok so far...

85% Gen Chem
86% Bio
78% Physics (by far the toughest section and much more theoretical than any of the FL's, but avg reflects this at 50ish %)

For those who know me, this is a huge improvement from where I was at 1.5 months ago. I scored a 24 on my actual after avg 29-30 on my AAMC practices. Really encouraged by these percentages and how strong I'm getting in my intuition on the topics. Great job to everyone who is also working so hard and posting amazing scores!

88% orgo
88% gen chem
75% bio :/

For bio I'm like embarrassing at urinary and digestive systems, and specialized eukaryotes. Kind of disappointed that orgo is such a small fraction of the exam compared to bio.

I'm going to take physics tomorrow, but that's my stronger suit of the four subjects. Hopefully I can pick up bio in the next 2+ weeks before the exam, but there's just so much memorization it's just very discouraging, especially since unlike Gchem and Ochem, my weakness are very spread out. I know the next test is more conceptual, so hopefully the memorization won't hold me back

Edit: Oh, a lot of them I got wrong for bio were critical thinking stupid mistakes. Well that makes me feel better. Next time I won't do 30 passages in a row

Can someone explain to me why A is not the answer to #40 on the orgo SA? It's the same damn compound they use in the passage as an example. :boom:

I did Verbal SA:

I found them to be much easier than TPRH, and slightly easier than EK. I've been on the 8-10 range in those.

Here I got 88% and did them in 3 groups, for a total time of less than 3 hours..

I'm either relieved that AAMC material is manageable, or that this is too easy and deceptive.. any idea how this compares to other AAMC or real MCAT verbal?

Just finished the Biology SA and scored a 70%. I'm disappointed, but I also know bio isn't my strongest subject (scored a 9 in BS on AAMC #3). I'm hoping to be able to use this and improve my weaknesses the best I can.

I got an 80% in gen chem a few days ago. Not super thrilled at all. Granted, I had a low grade fever while taking it, but still. I really only did poorly on three subsections (thermo, stoichiometry, electrochem), so I'll focus on those and I should be in better shape. Planning on taking either OChem or bio tomorrow... Hopefully I'll do better on that.

Someone has to make notes of these answers... Does anyone have the answer key? It is annoying that someone has to finish all these questions before finding out how they did... I guess I will have to do an answer key for VR once I am done with it...

Taking 8/22 test

89% Physics
93% GChem
86% Bio (dafuq..)
96% Orgo

Still working on VR. It will probably be my lowest. 🙁

Made some silly errors in physics and gchem. But it was definitely good to do the SAs because it made me realize that I "mis-utilized" some concepts. I was really shocked at bio. I was doing well in the beginning and it either got harder at the end or it was because I had trouble concentrating since I started to have some severe heart burn T___T

BS is usually my highest score. I've mostly done Kaplan and TPR practice tests. So, the AAMC SAs were kinda like the first time familiarizing myself with the real question format.. and for some reason I felt like Kaplan and TPR and maybe even TBR bio was different from the real format?? Like in terms of types of questions asked and passage content.

Also, I've noticed the AAMC SA physics passages seemed really intimidating and was filled with numbers/equations/definitions literally every other sentence.. half of them you didnt even need to answer the questions..

Anyone felt like this too?

If you do them untimed, it'll be REALLY skewed. I got 90 and 80 in chem and physics, but getting 10's currently on AAMC's. If you time yourself as if on AAMC tests you'll realize that the content only gets you so far.

Are people posting these 90% scores doing them timed or untimed?

Doing them untimed is obviously a waste of a time, since the MCAT is timed.

Now on the other hand, if you're doing it timed - then you are in excellent shape getting 80's and 90s..

Anyone know how representative they are though? I did Verbal SA, timed, with time to spare and received 88%. I felt they were way easier than EK and TPRH. I've been getting 8-10 on those.

I'm personally not doing them timed because I have no issues at all with time (never gotten close to running out of time on any section).

Not even verbal? I barely finish VR and PS every time. I know the real MCAT BS is different, but on my practice FLs I finish BS with at least 15 minutes left because I either know it or I don't.

Yeah, I finish VR 5-10 minutes early. It's my strongest section for sure. I'm really thankful that I don't have to worry about timing or about VR in general, because I need all the time I can get to improve in the sciences!!!
