*~*~*~* Official TMDSAS Questions Thread 2025-2026 *~*~*~*~*

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I haven't received a single interview and my earliest submission was on 6/20, my latest was on 7/4 or so.

I am already ten years out of college and wondering if there is something wrong with my stats or my essays. I have a 513 MCAT and I did an SMP at UNTHSC and got a 4.0, due to my very old academic transcript (Ws, lower GPA. Cs, etc)

My overall GPA is now at a 3.5 for both science and cumulative, but wondering if the recent master's coursework still doesn't really make a difference.

I also applied last cycle (non-Texas) and wondering if this is flagging me, because I submitted to 60 schools but ended up withdrawing my cycle for family reasons + getting more recent clinical experiences (mine were 5+ years old). Maybe schools are seeing this guy isn't serious.

All that being said, I know the timeline can vary from September to January. The average from secondaries to interview on cycletrack.org is about 60 days, so I thinking to wait 80 days since the students seem higher stats.

My plan is if it is a good idea to stop applying if, after 80 days, I have not heard from a single school, and that this is an indication I am not in the right direction and should call it. I am prepared to move on, just want to be better informed.
I'm also worried I may have messed up in my writing, or maybe screwed up on hours for an activity. Maybe I put 200 instead of 100, or just miscalculated, and ADCOM is like wtf is this bull****. This is scary. Two of my friends already got Interview invites, and we all have similar stats overall, so, idk. I trust God, though.

Your stats and your SMP performance all sound good, are you a Texas resident?

Now that you are done with the secondaries try not to let the waiting period get you down. TMDSAS interviews can happen any time in the next 5-6 months
You always give such amazing advice. Honestly, thank you for what you do on this forum.

Do you all know which schools screen for secondaries?
Dell, UH Fertitta, UTRGV, TCU (AMCAS) and to some extent UT Tyler.
The rest of the TMDSAS schools will send a secondary to all who submit a complete TMDSAS primary

UTRGV screens? Do you know their criteria? Because I heard from them the day after my TMDSAS verification. Whereas it took 2 weeks for UH and I still haven't passed Dell's screening.

UTRGV say they screen, but in essence I think they send a secondary to all US citizens and permanent residents.

Has anyone found any success in taking an early September MCAT and submitting it right when you get your score back in October? I plan to get secondaries submitted by the end of this week.

The last date valid for this cycle is a September 13 MCAT.
The TMDSAS deadline for submitting the primary is October 1.
This is not a strategy compatible with success and you would be better off applying next May and getting everything in early, as well as having the next few months to build your experiences.

I already got my TMDSAS primary app verified and got secondaries earlier this week. It's just the September 4th MCAT that is delaying my application because I plan to get secondaries in by the end of this week.

You will still be among the last 5% to have a complete application in.
If you pull this off come back and tell me I was wrong

Aw man that sucks to hear 🙁
I am dead set on applying this cycle because the rest of my application is really strong. Hoping that carries me through. If this worked out for anyone please lmk!!

I'm afraid that @wysdoc has the story here as usual. Schools will save some spots late in the cycle to interview great applicants, but even then it's tricky to go back and get those last minute complete files to the top of the queue for review. So, if your MCAT is very high we might see it and fill you in to one of our last slots, but there's no guarantee and if your MCAT is near or below a school's average, it is less likely to get pulled out of the last pile for interviews, although it could happen. So, there's a chance, and it depends on how each school saves spots for their last interview days which is variable, but the last spots are more competitive to get into even though we TRY to make sure that it's still possible and not to overly bias towards early applicants.

My 3 month nap time is over, back to work on SDN for the doodledog!

TMDSAS applications are up about 6% from last year at this point; Record Shattered: TMDSAS Application Volume Hits All-Time High
The numbers dont seem to align unless there same date submitted is what they are tracking. It shows 10.6% but refers to a 6% increase in verbage.

Submitted 7,277 vs 6536 for 10.6%

Data current as of Aug 6
  • Medical school applications are up 6.6% compared to last year, building on previous growth seen in EY 2025.

yep! is it 6? is it 10? The text below that table breaks it down into medical, dental, and veterinary applications, with the biggest increase in dental.
  • Medical school applications are up 6.6% compared to last year, building on previous growth seen in EY 2025.
  • Dental school submissions reflect an even sharper upward trend with nearly 32% year-over-year growth.
  • Veterinary school submissions have increased by over 35% compared to this time last year.

The final number for applicants won't be released until after October 1, the deadline for submission of the primary app.
Also each year a large number of persons do not follow through and complete their secondary essays, of a variety of reasons.
I think THES only makes public the number of applicants, interviews, acceptances, and matriculants at the end of it all.

When I google it says in 2024, a total of 6,472 applicants applied through TMDSAS.
So not sure if a bunch withdrew since the above number seems to refer August date for 6536.

It has definitely increased by more than 10% from the final number of 6472 before people start pulling their app.

I go to the TMDSAS Data Reports instead of Google because I can see the separation into the 3 schools.
TMDSAS Data Reports
You have to start by selecting "medical" then select the EY on the left side.
The data set for EY 2025 still only shows number of applicants, IS and OOS, and does not display the other data like acceptances and matriculants so far.

I made a mistake by assuming it is 2025 but it is defaulting to 2024.

2025 total medical applications are 6851.

First quartile Casper. I thought all of my answers were kind. I got an 8 on Preview. I wasn’t expecting any love from Texas schools anyway given my stats, but I feel like this is the nail in the coffin. I’ve been told they weigh Casper pretty heavily.

I was second quartile. Someone that prematched Long last cycle had 1Q.

To my knowledge it isn't weighted THAT heavily. Don't let it get you down.

Also, I thought I read some schools are even looking to get rid of it. I could be wrong though.
Texas A&M dropped it this year after being one of the first Texas schools to try CASPer out. The admissions dean said they felt the scores had not, in the end, played much part in their admissions decisions.
I haven't heard of other TMDSAS schools dropping it but I will keep you informed for next year 2026-2027

Thanks for the confirmation. That might explain why I got an II from them even with my 2nd quartile CASPer. lol.

I'm still grinding away at my secondaries, is this considered late for TMDSAS schools or am I okay as long as I'm in before Labor Day?

Just keep working on them. What held you back?
Honestly balancing everything with my full-time job got to me, with a little imposter syndrome thrown in. I definitely will get them done asap, but I'm worried I shot myself in the foot with being at the end of August now.

Should I be worried? No interview invites at all. Complete silence August 31st. Complete July 30th to August 1st on all schools

Bro I’m not even adcom and this is bad to do for Texas man. It’s super fast rolling. I was complete end of July/augut 1st and imo kinda late for Texas. Definitely not early, I knew people complete mid June.

happy to report back that i am pretty much done with TMDSAS! i appreciate the words of support to just keep trucking on them it was needed! as a career changer i really did not realize how important the timing was. I'm hoping my background gives me some grace, but am still anxious about this being way too late.

Yeah I shouldn't have done my MCAT last min.. I'm hoping there will be some grace for late applicants.

Is the processing/interview pace for Sam Houston and TCOM similar to other DO schools (longer cycle), or more akin to their TMDSAS MD counterparts?

TCOM and SHSU adhere to the TMDSAS cycle dates and deadlines:
All interviews will be done before mid January so that all Texas resident applicants who have had interviews can rank their schools
by the ranking deadline of 5 PM January 31, 2026.
Texans will find out if they matched to a school, and where, on February 14, 2026.

OOS applicants will find out their news on approximately the same timeline.
There can be some WL movement if some people leave their Texas school for a better offer OOS.
We will explain TMDSAS Match later in detail, or you can read about it on the TMDSAS guide.

I’m sure this question has been asked plenty of times but I wanted to ask for my own conscience. I submitted half of the secondaries in June and the other half in July, and have still yet to hear back from any of them in terms of an interview. Am I cooked? Nowadays the people I see getting interviews are late July/august so I’m genuinely not sure what to think
Somebody’s got to get those early ones, but you can still get interviews between now and December
I think most of the schools are going to ask the higher stat people first , leaving solid qualified applicants waiting

Anyone with 0-1 II. I wish this process would let me ask where I stand smh. So frustrated.

0, but I wasn’t expecting any love from TMDSAS anyway. I’m IS, but TMDSAS schools are very stats heavy

0 for Texas as well. I have gotten 4 II and 1 A from DO, though. I am grateful nevertheless.

Historically speaking, does anyone know if the Texas schools send out IS interviews first over OOS (I renounced my Texas residency three years ago, but I have extremely heavy state ties)? I am aware that my TMDSAS application was verified late; however, I completed all secondaries and requirements for every school by early to mid-August, which was within one week of my verification being finalized. I have not heard back from any schools yet, but I wonder if maybe someone could provide any information that might help me temper my wishes and expectations. Thank you to anyone who responds.

Texas schools usually pad their stats with higher stat students from OOS. An example is Long where OOS students have closer to 80 LM.

I had an inkling this would be the case. I had a significant upward trend in my GPA, so if they only factored in my last 60 hours, I’d be close to a 76 (75.9 to be exact) LM score. I was hoping my ties would save me, but we shall see.

Thank you for your response!

By law they have to take at least 90% in state residents. It's not an ideological thing (not only at least) so your ties only might help distinguish you against other OOS applicants but likely only if you have comparable stats.

is it too late to apply to TMDSAS DO schools? I already submitted everything for the MD schools

You can add the 2 DO schools still- do it asap, the deadline to submit your primary to them is October 1 and secondaries due promptly. Does either require your CASPer score? Log back in to your Acuity Insights account and send them your report

is it realistic to expect an interview with 3.34cGPA/516 MCAT? I really cant afford to waste money unfortunately

More likely at the DO schools where your GPA is good enough
Your MCAT of course is great.
There will be no additional cost to add the two DO schools, just the cost of their secondaries
