*~*~*~* Official TMDSAS Questions Thread 2025-2026 *~*~*~*~*

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The video from @wysdoc should explain everything but that is a simplified version of it. All you have to do is rank the schools how you want. You cannot 'trick' the algorithm or have a better chance at XYZ school just from ranking them higher. Tell TMDSAS where you want to go and they take care of the rest.

I appreciate the explanation. That's basically how I had already understood it. I was really trying to under @wysdoc 's comment of "The wishes of the students are slightly favored in the algorithm."

i love you home GIF

It's more complicated than your theory, @TMDSASSY

If you really want to read about it, here's the math (and the history of the math, which won the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1962)
Gale-Shapley algorithm

Guys why are schools so quiet right now 😢. I only got 2 and have not gotten a new interview since September. Am i cooked cause I submitted my secondaries in late August😵

Okay, I have a hypothetical question. I don't even think this will apply to me, because I have interviewed at two schools so far and already have a very obvious rank for them. However, let's say I am in the middle of a school's ranked list, and I rank them third, and do not match to said school. If I had instead ranked them first, would it be possible that my high ranking of the school would allow me to match at this school? Is that match works? Of course its not always like that and there is a chance I still would not have matched, but does it increase my chances of matching if I rank them first versus third? Sorry for the long winded way to ask how match works lol

No, your own ranking will not change how likely you are to match to said school because their own rankings of applicants are independent of what you put.

On their list, if you’re ranked #800, and they filled up their seats with the top 500 in their own list, you wouldn’t match whether or not you had them ranked #1 or #12; you weren’t high enough on their list to “make the cut”

The real answer is rank according to your true preference and don’t second guess yourself

Is anyone else experiencing complete radio silence from all the TMDSAS schools? My applications were all complete mid-July (LM 75), and I haven't heard anything so far. I just want to know if anyone else is in the same boat; the schools do appear to be unusually silent (though I don't know if this is rationalization on behalf of my panicked brain), so I have no idea what's going on.

I have noticed a few people getting their first TMDSAS interviews in October.
Did you also apply to DO schools in AACOMAS?
If not, start looking into it and do that in November 👍

If you update your GPA on TMDSAS, does it get automatically sent to the schools you applied to? Or do you have to send updates individually?

I vaguely remembered seeing a thread that listed all the TMDSAS school II sent-out dates from last year... does anyone still have access to that? Just want to take a look for reference only

Here is last year's list 2024 Interview invitation dates

This year's running list, and we're not done yet: 2025 Texas Interview invitations

Looking at the two there are a few changes in pattern, which can happen with a new leader in the admissions department, or if a school is busy with their scheduled LCME (accreditation) site visit.
What remains the same? All TMDSAS interviews will be done by the end of January 2026.

Thank you so much!!!

Can anyone give some ideas of how to write an update letter? I have some relevant work experience changes that I figured would be a way to update schools and (hopefully) get my application looked at again. As it’s November and I still have 0 II’s, I’m just looking for some advice.

Not too sure

I based it on this: How to Write a Great Medical School Letter of Intent or Letter of Interest (Example Included) — Shemmassian Academic Consulting. Hoping it works out for both of us because I also have 0 II's

Does anyone think it’s useful to send an email to UoH for their secondary? My whole primary was centered around underprivileged people and my desire to do primary care. Even my duo results were more geared towards primary care and emergency med.

There would be no harm in trying this. However, a couple of things:
1. This school had a strict 2-week deadline to return the secondary if they sent you one. If you somehow missed it in your junkmail months ago,
you are out of luck, unfortunately.
2. Another applicant recently wrote to ask for a secondary, and was turned down, being told "to be fair, we don't accept any updates."

Seeing this, if you write to ask to submit a secondary, don't include any other essays and updates with it, only make a simple request to complete their secondary essays.

@wysdoc thank you for your response. I did send a simple email to them and received an automated response. Hopefully they don’t just look and say “get outta hea!”

I created a separate email for med school apps and haven’t been so lucky to get the secondary. If I missed it I’m going to cry, that’s all!

Texas Health Education Service (THES) numbers for EY 2026 (this TMDSAS application cycle)

Primary application deadline was 10/1/2025, and here are the numbers of primary applications submitted:
Medical school: 7220 applicants
(up from 6827 EY 2025)
Dental School: 1555 applicants (up from 1265 EY 2025)
Veterinary school: 1526 applicants (up from 1342 EY 2025)

The cycle is still in progress so I have no numbers of IS/OOS, how many interviews, etc.

Going to need more seats soon. 400 more applications to medical school in a year!

Don’t know if anyone else who’s still waiting for interviews feels the same, but I feel like it’s been crazy quiet since 10/15. Realistically, how likely is it of still gettin an II before the end of the cycle?

it's objectively true that less interview invites go out from October 15-December than July-October, but there should still be november and december waves for most schools. Although, Mcgovern did a really funny last year and finished basically all their interview invites by like the middle of October, but doesn't seem like they're doing that now.

Unfortunately they were filling January slots as of October 29th.

my apologies in being that cliche applicant who's spamming but it looks like this cycle is over (at least for someone like me), would you guys recommend withdrawing? It sucks because I really needed Texas to be able to even afford this dream of being a doctor. I am in need of some advice.

Don't withdraw, interview invitations continue at some schools until January.
There is no cost to you to keep your application active.

One person received 2 IIs from Texas schools today including McGovern.

even for lower stats applicants? How many schools are still extending invites? It seems like UT Tyler, UTRGV is done. UTMB and McGovern are wrapping up. I was rejected from SHSU ;(. I think the only one ive seen from past years that have given till January was TAMU and they seem to be biased towards their undergrads?

McGovern just invited someone today, and I don’t think UTRGV, TCOM, or the Texas Techs are done

It looks to me like UT Tyler sent a wave of December IIs last year. There's no guarantee that that happens again, but that's exactly why you shouldn't withdraw. Any of the schools on your list could unexpectedly drop a new wave of IIs.

Withdrawing does not save you money, and it does not help your future admissions chances. It can literally only disqualify you from opportunities. It's possible that nothing will come of staying in this cycle, but by withdrawing, you would be guaranteeing that you are not accepted.

Never lose hope! Had a friend who had only interviewed at one school last year in late december and got in on match day. Now they are on their way to become a great doctor.

Just in case
