As you can probably tell, I'm on the alternate list of UNC-CH (In-state)....

I wanna get a feel for how many people are also waiting and whether they are instate or out of state...

If you get off the list, please post and if you have any information about the waitlist (anticipated movement, % of class taken from waitlist, learning where you are ranked in the waitlist, etc.) please share with the rest of us... What I've heard, apporximately 25 instate students get pulled per year and the sole determination as to whether you get off the waitlist lies in the hands of Dr. Hoole...

I'm glad someone started this post. What I know --- only Dr. Hoole knows the waitlist. I don't know if it's ranked already. I would think that it would be, and he has the authority to simply pull the next name off the list. The only other person (that I know of) on the SDN boards whose waiting like us is waitingwaiting . I also remember ncmd posting three(?) acceptances from the waitlists so far. When I found out that I was waitlisted my first thought was, "Great, who would turn down Chapel Hill." Apparently, some people do, but I think the odds are against most of us. Question --- Is anyone brave enough to get Dr. Hoole himself on the phone and ask their rank?

I turned down Chapel Hill, but only because of financial reasons (out of state). So, hopefully my spot will go to you!! It's a great school, and Dr. Hoole is super nice. I suggest speaking with him if you really love UNC and want to go there. He seems to want enthusiastic students that really like UNC, who can blame him?!?! Good luck!!!!

I know someone on the adcom, and according to him EVERYONE on the waitlist is ranked, but i don't think they like to tell you where on the waitlist you are.

So meeting with Dr. Hoole helped, hmmm? Great, b/c I've already scheduled a meeting with him for next month. :D

Hope to be at UNC in 2003... GO HEELS

Does anyone know if an out of state withdrawal is replaced by another out of stater, or does the highest ranked individual get the the next spot?

Helloooooooooo? Anyone have any news from UNC?

hey guys,
i'm on UNC's waitlist too! i've heard the same things that y'all have mentioned but it seems like most of the movement would have already occured since May's basically over, who knows though???? what a random process..........!!! :(

Hey-
I personally know of three people that have gotten pulled off the waitlist at UNC- they are all in-state. I think that is a good sign because I have heard in the past they hardly EVER take anyone off the list. There is some movement in the summer, too, as people get off waitlists of places they'd rather attend, so keep your fingers crossed! I think meeting with Dr. Hoole is a good idea, and extra letters can never hurt. I'll be at UNC med this fall- hope to see you guys there!

Hey Guys,

For those of you who meet with or are meeting with Dr. Hoole, how did you set up the appointment? I used his phone number off the campus directory and it connects directly to the UNC Healthcare system....

Plus, does it take it really take a MONTH before you get to meet with him after setting up the appointment?? By that time I assume the class will be set for good....

Just wanted to add some information about the UNC-CH waitlist from another site (GOWER'S SITE)

--------------------------------------------------
Do you know anything about UNC waitlist. When does most activity occur, how much movement there is typically and is the waitlist ranked-thank you for your input!

The list is rank ordered and was drawn up last month. Chance of acceptance for those in the top third is so-so. Commonly, no more than 5-10 make it. Greatest movement: April
15-June 1. You can call, but you only be given general, not specific, information.
--------------------------------------------------

Yeah, I know, pretty depressing (especially as NCMD already knows of 3 who've gotten pulled)... I can understand though as I don't know why anybody would say no to UNC...

I was on the waitlist last time I applied to UNC and I ended up getting in early in the process this time around. After I found out I was in the middle third of the waitlist (basically out), I set up a meeting with Dr. Hoole. I told him I really wanted to go to UNC and I asked him specifically what he wanted to see me improve in my application for next year. I did exactly what he told me to do and that's all it took to get in this time. Adcoms REALLY like to see you recognize your flaws and do something about them, so if you're willing to sit out a year, I would definitely recommend setting up a meeting with Dr. Hoole.

Calypso,

Who did you get in touch with in regards to your postition on the waitlist... It seems the admissions office is not willing to give out that info....

Thanks.

Has anyone else given up hope on UNC? Please post if you've heard of any recent movement on the waitlist. Thanks!

to my fellow tarheel wannabes....

I walked over to MacNieder to talk to Ms. Reid this morning and this is what I was told:
(1) On average, 50 people reject acceptances from UNC (though she wouldn't give me percentages on instate/outstate)
(2) Though people have been accepted of the waitlist this year, its moving a lot slower than accepted and they still anticipate more movement
(3) Surprisingly, there are still people in the UNC class holding more than just one acceptance!!?? (For some reason I thought you couldn't do this... but UNC may be more lenient this cycle because of the delay in sending out financial aid info...)

So I guess a sliver of hope still remains...

Thanks, Sizzle!!

I'm meeting with Dr. Hoole tomorrow (wish me luck!). Please let me be at UNC in 2003... it's my first choice school!!
