For those of you in that wierd "on hold" category at Davis. I called this morning (prompted by a fin. aid letter congratulating me on my acceptance) to see if I was accepted and Terri told me that there were a lot of letters that had to be signed and that they were still on her desk and going out today. He he, for the first time I've witnessed a fin. aid office beat the other depts. in efficiency. Great news for all those still waiting to hear.

Darwin,

I only got a blue Davis suppl financial aid application last week, but anything that remotely says about "congrats on your acceptance...". Are we talking about the same fin aid letter? I figured, the financial aid office wanted to start proceeding with securing $$ for everyone on hold, no?

Alright,

I couldn't wait so I ended up calling Terri about a minute ago and got a personal congrats from her. Like what Darwin said, the financial aid office beat her on mailing out a good news. I'm INNNNN!!! My first in-state acceptance!!!!!

Congrats to both of you! So you both got in off the "on hold" list? That's great. I'm on that list, but I didn't get a financial aid letter. Hmmm, I was under the impression that there wouldn't be movement until late May?!? Also, when I called about a month ago, I was told that all notifications of any decisions would be made by email. You guys didn't get any emails, only the financial aid letters??? Congrats again, and good luck to others waiting.

Congrats to all.....So you CAN get in off the hold list then? Because I was told that you could only get waitlisted or get accepted off the HOLD LIST.

I just tried to call and see if I could get anything out of them when asking if my update letter was received but they didn't give me any good news. They hadn't even received my update letter which I know was received because I sent it delivery confirmation. It's all so sad!! So, were you guys put on "hold" or on "hold for further consideration" or is it the same thing?

Patiently Waiting,
So you also got a fin aid letter? Did you call Terri's number or the general admissions office number?

When I called this morning I was told that decisions for the on-hold category haven't been made yet and hopefully will be made by June. Just to confirm, Darwin and Patiently Waiting, you both were admitted off of the on-hold category post interview? And Darwin, you were under the impression that the letters that had to be signed were for people who recently interviewed or people getting in off of the on-hold list? I guess the waiting game continues... good luck to all.

I was in the reconsideration category since December. My interview was in November. I didn't send out an update letter til a few days ago, which means they've made a decision of accepting me before receiving it. This came to me as a shock since Terri told ME back in December that they would re-review people in the hold category beginning in June. Anyway, I thought it was odd that I got their suppl financial aid appl last week since a financial aid officer told me that they send out the Davis financial aid appl only to the acceptees several months ago.
The bottom line is Davis's begun pulling people off of the hold category, so, people, keep your chins up and a good news is on the way. Best of luck to ya all!!!!

Thanks for the responses Patiently Waiting. Let's hope good news is coming!!!

Sorry I haven't posted again till now - been studying for my comp. exams this weekend. Anyway, I was placed on "hold for further review" (notified by e-mail) and I believe the e-mail did say decisions would be made in June...looks like they got to them earlier.
The financial aid letter I got was a blue form along with a white written letter that stated "Congratulations on your acceptance...now we need to get your info..." It all came as a shock to me as well. Good luck to all of you ask away if you have any more questions.

Oh yeah...I wasn't sure if the signed letters on her desk were all for those on "hold" or some who just interviewed, or the mix of the two. Terri just said she had a lot of them to go out. I assumed they were for those on "hold" since they couldn't possibly have A LOT of acceptances to give from recent interviews. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Darwin. Hopefully good news will head our way.

altaskier,

Just wanted to tell you to check your PMs, I left a response to your questions about MCW. The email notification system for PMs doesn't seem to be working.

I interviewed in January and I'm still in the "hold" category. Could those of you who recently got accepted let me know when you interviewed and got placed on "hold." Thanks, I'd really appreciate it.

I interviewed in December and got placed on "hold" sometime late Jan. or early Feb.

Hi all;
Has there been any movement in UCDavis "on hold" list lately? Does anyone know how many have been accepted so far?
Btw, could someone rename this thread "UCDavis countdown..." (SDN copyright. :D ? I don't know how.

Hey everyone,

I interviewed in early March, and just recently found out I was placed on "hold for further consideration." I tried calling the office, but no one picked up. What does that exactly mean? Are individuals who are put on hold wavering between acceptance and waitlist or waitlist and rejection? Does anyone know when Davis stops interviewing?

Bump!
Anyone? Any news? Any info?

Btw, could someone rename this thread "UCDavis countdown..." (SDN copyright. ? I don't know how.•••••Darwin and I have been accepted off of the "on hold" list... so the movement has definitely begun... One thing I noticed is that we got off the list right after Davis had their revisit weekend. Based on the number of the accepted applicants who came to the event, the school's probably figured out how many applicants they would need more to keep the class size full before making a waitlist. So, if you are on the on-hold list and still haven't heard, you may need to wait til after May 15 (most likely til June) to hear a more definitive answer from the school.

Only the thread initiator (Darwin in this case) can rename the thread topic.

Terri said back in December that the school won't re-review the "on hold" applicants' files til June. If you have a strong interest in school, start sending them update letters to remind them of you often. Think about it, when the committee re-open your file to review and finalize their decision, it's nice to find one or more of some new information they haven't read earlier.

OK...I renamed the thread

Thanks, Darwin
May I ask the UCD acceptees: What are your GPA, MCATs, and undergrad schools?

Not many people talking about UCD. I wonder if that's reflective of them not having accepted many students? Anyone hear anything from Davis recently?

May I ask the UCD acceptees: What are your GPA, MCATs, and undergrad schools?•••••Not that I don't wanna share my stats with ya, but I don't know how that would serve any purpose here. Anyway, mine's 3.4 GPA with a sharp upward trend and 33 MCAT.

I can't help but wonder why people ask about other's stats. Medical school admission involves so many factors that even if someone has the same/higher/lower stats than someone else they may be on a equal footing for getting into a particular school based on other criteria incl. ECs, LORs, overall presentation, and subjective things like perceived sincerity, the way you dress etc...

Just wonderin'

are they done with interviews?

Don't split your hair over my previous question.
I just wanted to bump the thread up. That's all my intention. :D

Here's an interesting site I found three years ago when I was applying:

http://www.acusd.edu/~e_cook/vault/medical/davis/ucd-med-00.html

It has the GPA and MCAT scatterplot of all accepted to UCD. The author is a bit anti-affirmative action, but the info is useful.

Unfortunately, I received my rejection letter from them about this time years ago. Then I saw the stats and realized only one accepted person had a higher MCAT score than I did. I must have bombed the interview :) Oh well, it was my first one (Grr...I'm a UCD alum too).

muchos gracias mcwmark;
it seems to me that not many SDNers are excited or concerned about UCD. that's OK. It's my third choice anyways.
Does it have a second visit thing?

hey jifi-
They're not done with interviews yet...i have one coming up on may 16! it's late, i know, but i thought i'd go north and check it out anyhow...
since they're still interviewing past may 15 i wonder if they've filled their class yet. who knows?

Well, the lack of research bothers me about UC Davis. I mean, I REALLY like that school's location and general laid back atmosphere, but for a UC...it's a research wasteland, the only non-MSTP UC. I hope that changes in the near future. I wouldn't mind doing a residency there, though.

thanks aria, good luck on the interview....you from la?

I know they say 6-8 weeks after interview for decision, but I was wondering how long it really took for each of you. I interviewed there 3 weeks ago and the wait is killing me.

Actually, this isn't true. There is lots of research at Davis. While it doesn't have the NIH funding of, say, UCSF, as a medical student you would definitely not be hurting for lack of research opportunities to get involved with.

Davis has traditionally been known for its strong program in primary care - but that is changing, and I have spoken to several students who want to go into research and have found plenty of it at UCD.

Does anyone know how many students went to the revisit weekend?
Has anyone bothered to call them to inquire about their process?

As of May 13, they still were handing out acceptances. I was placed on hold a while ago and I was notified by email May 13 that they were offering me an acceptance.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE

congrats jmejia1, that gives me hope- i have been on hold since late january so i am praying that i get some GOOD news soon.

I personally got to witness the number of new research facilities that have been recently built or are under construction. It seems to me that Davis has recognized the research is an integral part of medical advancement and been trying to keep up with the demands by building many research facilities and attracting scholars. Because of my strong interest in research I asked my interviewer a bunch of Qs about research opps at Davis. To summarize his responses: the school very much encourages the students to pursue research but traditionally those who matriculate at Davis are not very research-oriented, which is the reason why that arena seems lagging. But since competitiveness to get into a lab of interest is not an issue at Davis, if research is something you desire, it's easily attainable.

PatientlyWaiting, will you be going to Davis, or are you still holding out for other waitlists?

Congrats jmejia1 !!! When was your interview?
Who's definitely going to matriculate at UCD?

Almost definitely - I withdrew other acceptances today. I'm still on a couple of waitlists but probably won't pursue them. I hope to see you in September!

I hope i hear from Davis soon. I was put on hold this month, but from what i've read it looks like some peopel have been taken off hold and offered positions despite the fact that Davis is still interviewing.
