This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Wow, you finally picked between UCSF and UCLA! Must feel good to have decided.

(Sorry, I can't add myself to this thread)

Does this mean that you've told UCSF that you aren't going? 😀

I guess I can add my name to this list pending my high priority status at UCSF and word at Davis...

Hello classmate!

Future Bruin here!

Yeah ... Its been 3 months since I've found out about my acceptance at both schools. It was a very difficult decision to make on account that most people were pushing me towards UCSF. But I just didn't feel it. It is a great school, but I don't think it would have made me happy.

UCLA will be awesome!

I know the first year starts in August and ends in June. When does the second year start and end? I think I might of heard September through April, but I'm not sure if that sounds right.

I just checked the website and our first year ends on 6/30! Do most schools end that late or is it just ucla? I thought most schools have 2 months off between 1st and 2nd year...oh well...ucla can have year long classes and I'd still go 🙂

2nd year starts with us on Aug. 11, 03. Their ends with finals during the week of May 7-14, 2004 and the Step 1 reading period is from May 15 - June 20.

On the bright side, with the summer being only a month long, it's seems more acceptable to just enjoy it and do nothing related to medicine/school/career.

haha...true..I like your way of thinking subee!

I just found an area in the med school home page where they post minutes from the education planning team and with the new curriculum we do go from august to june during our first year, but we go from september to april our second year. We get 10 weeks off between 1st and 2nd year and we get some breathing time before the boards.

Yeah, my student interviewer said that not enough study time before the boards was something the class before her complained about and the school reformed. From talking to herm it sounded like we have a pretty generous amount of time between the end of classes and boards.

Hey folks!

Congrads to y'all! Nice to meet y'all, and thanks for sharing! Extra thanks to antoniop for starting up the thread. 🙂 (Hey, where did you say was that website for the educational planning team's minutes? that sounds real interesting...)

To everyone out there who got in without being waitlisted, did you get any information in addition to your letter of acceptance? (ie housing info, upcoming events, important websites, etc?) Those who just got in off the waitlist only got a thin UPS package with a letter, so I'm curious what we're missing out on.

I just got in off the waitlist, much sooner than expected, so I'm really excited about all this. Plus this will be my first time living in So.Cal (I'm a UCD alum from Bay Area). Looking forward to getting to know you guys...!

Yodi,

You can get a headstart on filling out financial aid forms by going to http://www.medstudent.ucla.edu/fao/general/finapp/20032004/

Most of the stuff can be filled in online, with some forms to be printed out and mailed to the financial aid office; they should be sending you stickers with your own personal barcode to attach to the forms soon.

The only other thing I received was a statement of intent to register/statement of residency form mailed separately from the acceptance letter.

I did find out about a website for entering students (through SDN, of course!) that has some info on housing, computer requirements, etc. It's http://www.medstudent.ucla.edu/entering/default.cfm?page=/admiss/ncsn.htm

Thanks Arginine 🙂

Here it is ... http://149.142.90.241/som/physio/mec/ ... its called the Medical Education Committee and I guess they oversee everything with the education process including the new curriculum.

I got in without being waitlisted, and I too only received a very, very thin letter. We got a lot of information at the second look weekend ... most of it is accessible online at www.medstudent.ucla.edu ... just click on "Entering Students: Class of 2007." Most of everything else is supposed to come in June or July.

I wasn't on waitlist, but I've only got a letter and financial aid bar codes so I don't think you've missed out on anything.

😀 Hi, this is my very first posting  these faces are kinda neat 😍. I absolutely can't wait for school to start anymore, so I finally decided to try meeting some of you guys on here. I was born and raised in LA, went to ucla undergrad and  got into my number one choice for med school. I know it sounds pretty lame that I've never left, but I've just had such a great time growing up out here that I don't really want to leave. I'm looking for a carpool buddy, so if anyone is interested, let me know. I have to say i'm a bit nervous along with being super excited. I'd love to hear a bit about you guys. Either way, I'll meet you all in august.

Wassup! I went to UCLA ungrad and will be sticking around for at least another 4 years at UCLA Med too! Up until May 15th, I was tossing between UCLA and USCF but finally decided to stick with the smog in LA instead of the fog in SF. I'm really anxious to get med school started already. I finished school in December and have been waiting since. Anyways, they set up a carpool database at www.medstudent.ucla.edu/entering where you can put your information and see if anybody bites. It just got posted, so it'll be a while for more people to input and search.

Hey guys,

Though I am not a medical student, I will be undergraduate of class of 2007 at UCLA! Go BRUINS!!! =)

turtles

antoniop,

I tried entering the carpool database, but it was asking for a username and password. What did you use for that? I tried using my student ID and pin number, but didn't seem to work.

Do you know where you're going to be living yet? I got the grad housing apt on Rose Ave. (near Sepulveda and Palms).

Hey all,
I'm so elated to announce that I can finally join the fold. 🙂
I got my letter two days ago, and I though I would have a heart attack. Don't got financial aid yet or anything...but I'm just happy. See yall soon.

Ooops, guess I gotta chance my quote!!! 🙂

Hey congrats, cbpremed!!!!!!!   I called financial aid about 2 weeks ago and they told me they were just starting to figure out fin aid packages for the incoming class of 2007, so I don't think anyone has gotten an offer yet.

I'm so glad to see that everyone is writing again. Thanks for the info antoniop. What was your major? Maybe we'll recognize each other. I was MCDB and did a lot of anthro. Oh, and congrats to cbpremed     . I'm getting so anxious to start. I've never been this excited about school in my life. Do you guys know whereabouts you'll be living?

There should of been an addressed reply envelop included w/ the bruincard info and white coat ceremony forms that you mail back to UCLA.

Yes, there are business enclosed reply envelopes for those who HAVE already received their Orientation Packets, but I haven't, so I was hoping someone could give me the information.

Thanks again 🙂

Sorry didn't completely read your post. So you haven't recieved your orientation packet yet. I don't have an address, because it was on the envelop that I mailed back to them but, in the oreintation packet it says to call Charlotte Myers at the student affairs office if you have any questions #(310) 825-3970 or email [email protected]. Hope that helps.

i believe it is supposed to be returned to the student affairs office. the address is somewhere on their website. hope that helps.

Hi everyone, thanks for the info! My photos and forms are on their way to Student Affairs 😀 !
