Hi all..
What happened today is just unbelievalbe. I had an interview and right after I was done..the interviewer asked to be excused for 10 minutes then came back with the dean of admissions and offered my an ACCEPTANCE on the spot. I just didn't believe it..it took my couple of minutes to comprehend what she said.I didn't know that there is such a thing..They said that they haven't done that in 4 years. I am extremely happy for the acceptance and the way it got it!!
Good luck to you all.

wow.. .you must of really impressed them during your interview. . .what did you say?!

Do you mind saying which school this was? Congrats on the acceptance - that is truly amazing... :D

Hi
I don't think I would like to disclose the shcool's name right now. The interview went really well..I am not sure though that this is why they offered me the acceptance. My stats are kinda okay..my GPA is above average but my MCATs is around average. It looks like that they saw something in my application that I didn't see. Anyway..I am in and that is what really matters..good luck everybody.

That is AMAZING!!! Congratulations.

Damn, that just happened to me at Columbia too!!!! Oh wait, no it didn't. Congrats. --Trek

Trek baby, you kill me. Congrats cookie--I've never even HEARD of that happening!

i must say that i can find absolutely no logical reason for you not to disclose the name of the school. if they offered you admission, it's a legally binding agreement; they can't rescind it if you tell people. it's not a damn secret. come on, you are being selfish and we are all dying to know the name of the school so i beg you to disclose the name of the school.

I'll go 5 to 1 that it's Loma Linda. Anyone wanna take bets? Love --Trek

While I'm a little puzzled as to Cookie's reasoning, I don't think that it's selfish... She might have a very good reason. Besides, it''s private information, so...

what the hell are you talking about? none of us will ever find out who cookie is in real life and about her identity.
this is completely illogical. if you dont want to share the name of the school, then at least tell us why so we can tell you why your logic is unreasonable.

now please, for the love of all that is good, please tell us the name of the school as YOU HAVE ALREADY BEEN ACCEPTED!!!

I gotta say - I'm curious as hell as to what school it was - and normally I would be respectful of a person's privacy in such a matter - but Cookie, you are the one that started this thread! This is like when someone tells you they have a juicy secret, and you ask them what it is and they give the smug reply like "I can't tell you that"...WFT!? IF you couldn't tell us, dont mention it in the first place! No one here knows your real name or any identifying information, so why not just say the name of the darn school?

Congrats Cookie! Wow. What an experience. I would've passed out in shock.

Oh, and by the way, and please don't take this as an insult, but what kind of school does this sort of thing? I really think it screws with the integrity of the process, but maybe I'm a stickler...I dunno, anyone else think schools should avoid doing this sort of thing?

while i won't yell, I do agree with choker, clearly we're all dying for the dirt, and there doesn't seem to be a reason why you could bring up the story without being allowed to tell the name of the school. I also heard about Pitt doing this once last year (it's on interviewfeedback.com) but that person said that the dean offered him admission only if he/she agreed to withdraw the rest of his/her apps and go to Pitt.

Trek, why loma linda,... realated to their religious affiliation?

i agree with choker and jargon124, it's not cool to share the story and then say i can't tell you anymore about it, but just be happy for me ;) which i think we all are. but i guess you are entitled to do whatever you please.

the school is in ohio, ill put money on it!

maybe this is the reason that she doesn't want to disclose it! Actually, I read some of the interview feedbacks for University of Pittsburgh, and they DID do this in the past....the Dean comes and says, I will give you an acceptance, on the condition that you withdraw FROM ALL YOUR OTHER Schools...and then he/she apparently said no, they can't do such a thing...and then the Dean said...well I really couldn't have done that anyway....its in interview feedback.com...go read it...
 :p

I think coookie is just screwin with everyone.
Damn her/him if he/she is!!

Trek, I'll take those odds. I'll go with MCO. 20:1 odds, any takers?

hmmmm, not sure it's MCO..... I'd bet against it :)

I get the sense that Cookie is screwing with our heads..

Who cares, it didn't happen to any of us so who give a crap what school it was. If she is in then congrats! Don't worry about which school it was and hope it happens to you. Sound logical enough!

the behavior in this topic seems to back up the stereotypes i've been hearing about medschool. rumors being spread around, nosy about other people's business, lots of **** flying around. like altaskier says, who cares what school it is if it didn't happen to you? man, the discussion here is pretty childish.

i think many of us (and i can be guilty of it too) live vicariously through others though this website, but sometimes we try to pry information out of other that won't apply to us. if this cookie is fake (and if so, the dude is lame) then leave it as such. if not, congratulate the person and if he/she doesn't want to reveal the school, who cares! i sure don't...each school will go about the process differently for all applicants so why try to microanalyze whether or not it'll happen to you?

I'm pretty sure Cookie is from Arkansas, but who cares? Congrats, wherever you are. :)

I definitely want to be nosy! I love stories like that :) Congrats Cookie - what a way to find out!!!!

frankly im getting a little pissed off that cookie has yet to tell us the name of the school let alone acknowledge any of these posts. this is absolutely absurd.

whatever, forget it. i dont care. if you dont want to share, it's your right to be irrational.

Well this should offer some insight into this "Cookie" person. You people are naming schools that realistically she probably didn't apply to.

that's funny. not that i don't appreciate your finding the earlier post, but tone, did you go through looking for cookie in all the old threads? woah. we're all a little obsessed or i guess we wouldn't be here.

i echo choker in being surprised that cookie hasn't 'fessed up yet. what is peer pressure for if not this?

It's MCO. S/he posted that s/he'd be interviewing there on 12/10. Another interesting thing about this "cookie" is that her/his number of posts was stuck on 30 for quite some time, but then went down to 28 and then back up to 30. Weird.

I'm impressed with the caliber of detective work SDNers! Wow. Remind me never to get on your bad side. It's become a freakin' mafia in here! :D

This might be pushing things a little too far... If I was this "Cookie" person, I wouldn't want to reply right now! You guys have basically interrogated him/her because she won't name the school she got into. Maybe it's just me, but I think that's going too far.

Anyway, that's just my two cents. I suppose I should be prepared to be the next target of the SDN hit squad... :D

I gotta admit, this is EXACTLY why I love SDN. Props to TBone for looking up old posts on this "Cookie" - I like the way you think! Anyway, I still want to know what school it was, and the longer Cookie goes without posting on this thread, the more I am inclined to think this was all a joke. Either way, I'm gettin my 8 hours of sleep a night. :) Of course, we are all keeping in mind that this is an internet message board, arent we? ;)

No actually I didn't, it was all just a coincidence. I myself am applying to Morehouse U and I was digging up old threads about the school. Low and behold I happen to scroll past "Cookie" and a light bulb went off. No, it was NEVER that serious. Just ironic, I would find that along my search.

In this post, dated 11/29, Cookie says she will be interviewing at Toledo in 10 days. The timing is about right. :p

Wow, if I ever suspect my girlfriend of cheating, you guys are hired.

Medical College of Ohio (MCO) is in Toledo.

Ok, as usual, SMW is on top of everything and has settled this issue. Thanks SMW. Now I think I speak for everyone when I say its time to forget this fiasco and this "Cookie" as well... :)

You guys are all a bunch of A**holes. Why can't you just be happy for someone. If I say I got in somewhere or I just got an interview, why can't you just say "Great Job." Instead, a barrage of, "What are your stats?, etc." come out. This is EXACTLY why I never disclosed that I was pre-med. Pre-meds by tradition, are competitive and selfish. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

BTW, great job cookie. Knock 'em dead.

While I'll admit that immaturity has dominated this thread, it has all been in good fun and not mean spirited. In fact, many people DID express congratulations to Cookie. What IS mean spirited is for you to call everyone else "a bunch of a**holes." And what do you mean you never disclosed that you're a premed? You're posting on a premed discussion board, for Pete's sake!?! Your holier than thou attitude -- not others' immature fun -- is an example of one of the worst stereotypes of premeds!

Hell, I'm not even technically a 'premed' and the story doesn't float with me. As far as I know, acceptances are not decided unilaterally by one interviewer and the dean of admissions during the interview. However, I may be mistaken and if indeed this person did get in, congrats. But for calling us a**holes, do realize had she come right out and said "I was accepted at MCO today" people most likely wouldn't have been so harsh.

I do believem s/he, because while I know that the decisions are made by committee, you know there's politics involved as well. I'd say that the dean of admissions has pretty strong pull at the adcom meetings, no?

I also think people have went overboard about the name of the school.

Well, let's not forget that some schools have a very logical/mathematical approach to their admissions process. At my local state (actually, provincial) school, they assign 50% of the weight to the MCAT, 10% to GPA, and 40% to interview/references/essay. So, it might be clear after an interview that a person's combined score was high enough to basically ensure that they will be in the class.

So, in cases like that, it doesn't really matter what the admissions commitee as a whole thinks. If Cookie applied to a school like that, then he/she could very well have gotten an acceptance right after the interview.

why can't someone post an acceptance notice without revealing the school? most of the posters here seem to be congratulatory towards cookie, but there were those who demanded that he/she reveal the school.

i'm not sure, but this sounds a bit like jealousy to me as well too. funny how this one little, innocent post revealed a lot about some people here.
