Zucker aka Hofstra( full tuition)
Pros
-close to my home and family ( less an hour)
-P/F
-very very supportive and responsive staff and upperclassmen
-pre matriculation program would ease me in
-students I’ve talked to so far seem to enjoy what Hofstra is doing
-biggest healthcare system in NYS
-Curriculum geared towards understanding
-new building with gym nearby
-early clinical exposure
-had high step 1 and 2 scores (not sure how p/f step 1 would impact future match lists)
Cons
-odd clinical grading
-don’t know if I want to stay in nyc for residency (shocking I know)
- written preclinical exams
-Not sure if I’d do well with PEARLS
-mandatory, non-recorded classes
-In Long Island ( not much nearby)
-dispersed clinical and research sites (longer commutes)
-Higher COL
- lower prestige
-Not sure about if I’d fit
-far away from SO for another 4 years (long distance sucks)
Ohio State (half tuition)
Pros
- would enjoy exploring Columbus and attending games
-early clinical exposure
- optional and recorded lectures
-More “established” school
- great research opportunities
-higher ranked in research and pd rankings (goes back to the more established point)
-p/f preclinical
-long term SO about 3 hours away (could actually see them more than I could in nyc)
-faculty and upperclassmen also seem super supportive
-I really liked their match list this year
-Im drawn to the LSI curriculum
-I would love to be part of the free clinics
-Hospitals are all connected and close to the school building
Cons
-internal rank ( I hear this is mostly to give scholarships in later years)
-No connections in state
-as my sister would say “what is in Ohio?!?!” (p.s. I know there’s tons there but you get my drift)
-further from family and home
Please help me figure out where I should attend, thank you so much for your time! 😁
Update: Ohio state has changed my scholarship amount to a 4 year half tuition scholarship
