How do you contact a research group you're interested in? I'm a fourth-year med student in Norway, and I'll be in NYC this summer. We have visa waivers, so I'm wondering if I can still research (for free) without a proper work visa. I'm basically looking for a chance to do research at a university in New York City, for free, for about two months. Any ideas?

E-mail. You may need to e-mail a number of people to get a response. Introduce yourself, explain that you're interested in their research, anything relevant to their research in your background, how long you have to devote to the project. If you don't need to be paid or have your own money, I'd mention that in the initial contact. If you're going to need money, I'd wait until after they've asked for a copy of your CV or shown some interest.
