hello everyone, i promised myself that i would not bother anyone with this type of silly hypothetical question but i cant help myself as i sit here and work on my TMDSAS application. i have an overall gpa of 3.1 and my science gpa is 3.4. my last 60 hours are easliy over 3.5. i have no earthly idea what i got on the mcat but i dont feel good about it.
my research exprience includes fish survival rates (i dont remember the species) in artificial conditions, serotonin release in plateletes, and LCAT liver enzyme activity in hepatic damage.
i have worked with inner-city at-risk kid almost all of my life. SAT tutoring for high school seniors, gang-prevention mentoring and counseling, teaching the elderly to read, etc. i can go on and on but you guys get the point. i have been very active in my community. i taught 7th grade science for a year.
clinically, one year of phlebotomy, time at baylor university medical center transplant immunology lab, a month at carter blood care learning the intricasies of transfusion services. a 6 month rotation at a local hospital as a medical technology student-microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, blood banking, hematology, coagulation, etc. i will be MT (ascp) cetified in october. i was a dental company sales rep for about 4 mos.
my letters of recommendation are awsome and i have a ton of EC's and memberships to organizations as well as to honor societies. i am URM and i am applying in texas to all 7 schools.
many of you are thinking that i am a troll and that i want smoke blown up my pipe but here is where it gets a little hard. it took me 7 years overall to finish my undergrad because i took 2 years off. i have a few Ds (about 3), a ton of Ws, a few Cs and here is the catchy part, a few Fs also. not a troll after all huh? i was the first in my family (or entire neighborhood it seems like) to go to college so i made my fair share of dumb mistakes. after i graduated from college i had the bad fortune of trying to find a job in the post-911 economy and dealt with a serious bout of clinical depression. and despite all my clinical exposure i really havent shadowed a doc, only a pathologist in the lab.
i have learned alot about life and this has made me a better person. i am a 27 year old man not the dumb kid i once was, who has had to overcome many hardships and all of this has made me a more resilient and better person. i feel that all of this will make me a darned good physician. all of your opinions are welcomed. P.S.- south belle if you read this post please dont respond, i really dont care what you have to say.
