Okay..here goes...I need help in New York again 🙂
haha...thank you so much for everyone who has helped.

Here is what I want to find out. I plan to interview at Columbia, Einstein, then a day off (or Cornell if I can talk them into it), then Sinai. I want to stay in ONE hotel for this whole trip. Now, would you recommend a place on the Westside? Upper West side?
I was thinking of a hotel near the Penn Station below Central Park on the Westside. This would give me access to the A line to go to Columbia. Then I would also be in access to the subway to get to the east side for the Sinai interview. Then if I got Cornell, it would prolly be just across town...
Then there is Einstein which is gonna be a pain to get to. If I am on the Westside, is there anyway to get there by Subway? Or should I take the subway to a place closer and then catch a cab?
So basically, my question is: Where should I stay????? 🙂
Upper west side around 96th and Broadway.
Or more like 42nd street in the westside. Or should I just find a hotel on the Eastside. If I do it on the east side though (it seems to be more expensive) and then would it be difficult to get to columbia?
argh....morninglight tried to help me out and she was pretty good..but couldn't answer these questions...so any help would be appreciated 🙂

well i'm a big anti-midtown/ upper west side fan, but whatever you do, don't stay on the east side. yes it's more expensive, and yes it's less accessible, and yes there's less to do there.

ok, einstein is a bitch to get to no matter what. this is straight off their website:

The New York Bus Service Morris Park Avenue Express Bus (BxM-10) between Manhattan and the Bronx stops directly in front of the College of Medicine. Northbound stops are at Madison Avenue and 24th St., 36th St., 44th St., 52nd St., and 59th St., and on Third Avenue and 87th St. Call New York Bus Service for fare and schedule: (718) 994-5500. Exact fare is required.

i'd say this is your best bet, rather than taking a train and one or two buses (the only other options aside from a cab... waaaay too expensive) if you're on the upper west side, you could take a cross town bus to 86th and 3rd (a 10-15 minute ride) and get this express bus.

it's 4:30am and i should be studying cell bio and i'm so tired out of my mind that i forgot your original post, so i don't know if i answered anything... well good luck... email/IM me with any other q's.

lol... i just realized they show the original post at the bottom of the page... must... sleep... now... 😡 😀 😳

Scooby,

Try the Comfort Inn Central Park West. It's at 31 West 71st Street...it's a pretty decent hotel and their price is right ($50/night...from over $100 before the WTC incident). I'll be there from October 28th - 31st for my Cornell interview. You should be able to get to all of your interviews from it without too much of a problem...just do your research on which trains/buses you need to take...or just catch a ride with one of your many female followers 😀

DJWR:
Hey!! I will be there from Oct 29th through Nov 2nd! What are you doing for Halloween night in NYC??
I want to go and check out the town... 🙂

Does the Comfort Inn allow easy access to most of the schools?

Scooby

you can't miss the big halloween parade downtown, around 14th and broadway...it used to be a blast. does anyone in NYC know if it's still on this year?

Scoob--
Damn! I'll be in NYC next Sat. night after returning from my Penn interview, but I have to leave Sunday so I can be back at work Monday. It would have been a thrill to meet up! 🙂

That being said, I am totally psyched to see U2 on the 30th (in providence, unfortunately)! They're my fave--interviews had to be scheduled around the 30th! 😀

Scooby,

My trip is gonna be a little complicated. In New York 10/28-10/31...but then driving to Dartmouth on Halloween night for my interview on 11/1...driving back to NYC the evening of 11/1 for my flight out on 11/2.

As for the hotel, it's directly across Central Park from Cornell, about the same for Mount Sinai, and a fairly quick subway ride to NYU and Columbia. Einstein will take a little longer, but overall it shouldn't be too complicated to get to. With a little planning and getting up early, you shouldn't have a problem.

Let me know what you're up to on the other nights...I definitely want to hit up some of NYC's bars!
