OK, so we fill out the AADSAS application in detail. Then we get a supplementary. And the supplementary says - "Why do you want be a dentist?" And I think like ... hmmm - I just wrote you an extensive essay about that very thing - and now you want me to tell you again. OK OK - I can do that - I won't copy and paste - I will simply - bullet point the 3 or 4 things that I put in the essay. Because you probably don't want me to cut and paste. Unless of course you want more reasons than I already gave you in the essay.

But it gets worse - the next question is what have you done to explore dentistry as a career. Ummm - that would be everything I said in the AADSAS application --- should i just copy and paste that .... no no - I will summarize and somehow repeat myself, but in an original way.

And then it gets worse - please list your honors and special achievements?
OK, this is redundantly ridiculous. There is no way to really do this differently than on the primary AADSAS application that they already have. I mean do they want more achievements - well, I just finished climbing a mountain since I submitted this last week and I need to add that (not really) -- but you get my point. When we are literally copying and pasting from one application to another ...what exactly is supplemental about the supplemental?

I could say ... "Hey, just look at the AADSAS application you already have". Of course that's not a good idea. I'm just blowing off some steam doing these supplementals. I felt so good when I finished the incredibly detailed AADSAS application. Man, was I excited, the worst was over, now will I get an interview? Congratulations - you get another application to fill out.

I have felt this way throughout the entire process.

I guess what I did was say the same things, but apply it to the specific school and try to make a point as to why I would fit well at that school.

Think about how complex of an individual you are. You wrote a 4500 character statement that was supposed to not only prove your interest in dentistry but completely encapsulate your entire personality. I do not know you, but I guarantee that there are plenty of things about you that are interesting that you had to leave out in your primary application.

While the redundancy is annoying, see this as yet another opportunity to showcase who you are and possibly win someone over to have them invite you to an interview.

Besides, most schools receive well over 1,000 applications from applicants that all had to do the same thing. Take a breath, and approach it from a different angle, even if it is the exact same prompt.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Hey Jordan, I absolutely get where you are coming from and appreciate your reply and loved your video on youtube. I also like your glass half full approach to the matter of supplementary essays - but for me it is also a glass half empty kind of thing as well. It is another opportunity to stick your foot in your mouth.

The AADSAS is a significant application - it may not be a "leave no stone un-turned" sort of thing, but it's pretty close. So with that said ... let's just suppose a candidate crushed the AADSAS application and essay -whatever crushed it means (SMILE). Then this is not another opportunity to showcase rather it's another opportunity to mess up. For example if your grade or score is 100 in a class - another test can only hurt - it CAN'T help. OK, I suppose it could make a case for your consistency of performance - but with that said - the cruel irony of a perfect score or a perfect anything means that suddenly even a score of 99 suddenly becomes a bad thing.

Now on the other hand - it's not like somebody with a score of 0 can mess that up ... I mean if your average is 0 and you make even a 9 on your next test - it will pull your average up. And in that case another opportunity to showcase would be just what the doctor ordered.

Any-who-how - supplementary's are part of the process and as you suggested, "I took a breath" and did them (SMILE). Thanks for the encouraging words and insight.
