Hi! I'm a 36 year old. I have a degree in business (overall GPA 3.7) and have been working in insurance
:for almost 20 years. I've always wanted to go into
:medicine, but didn't (it's a loooong story!) Could you
😛lease give me your advice what to do first, next, etc.
:to realize this dream? I'm willing to do whatever I
:need to do. Will a med school accept me at age 40 when
:I finish pre-Med /MCATS? Thank you for whatever guidance
:you can give me.

Hi Beth,
Absolutely! I'll be 35-years-old in September and I'm starting my
first year of medical school in August. Some of the students I
talked to while I was in your position told me that their class
range was from 48 years old to 16. Go for it! Take the premed
classes if you haven't already. Because you're working you can
probably afford a good MCAT prep class (I recommend Kaplan). That
will help you on the MCATs. Then apply.

You can definately do it! Enjoy the coursework and go on to enjoy medical school. If you decide this is what you really want to do, it will be fun all the way through. Ancedotally(sp?), I spoke to an OB/GYN this weekend at a wedding who told me he had a 39 year old former nun in his medical school class who had been a nurse before deciding to pursue medicine. Also, at my SUNY Downstate interview this year one of the tour guides was a 36 year old first year student. Good luck!

This thread is 7 years old! 😕

Ha, I did not notice that. I hope Mr. Henderson is now Dr. Henderson!
