There are several PGY 2 OMFS fellowship positions available at Jacobi Medical Center, Bronx, NY. Prerequisite for application is successful completion of a GPR or AEGD. Interested parties should contact Dr. Victor Badner, Chairman, Dept OF Dentistry/OMFS @ 718-918-3418 or [email protected].
Application should include:

3 letters of recommendation
NBDE scores
Letter of intent

Dont I feel like an idiot. I am a PGY 2 and only half way through my residency, I should have just done this and become fellowship trained in OMFS in just two years.

I think the PGY2 part means that the PGY1 part was a GPR/AEGD, not a previous year of an OMS fellowship. So that's 1 year of general dentistry and then 1 year of OMS stuff. You're still ahead.

I'm not a smart man, but I know what a fellowship is... I think cross hairs was being sarcastic about the use of the words "fellowship positions" instead of residency positions. Fellowship meaning training as an OMFS fellow in oncology, craniofacial, etc. My question is: why the hell doesn't setdoc know this or use the proper terminology?

I'm not a smart man either, would you mind explaining the difference between and OMFS fellowship and an OMFS residency?

Thanks!

As the director of the program, I'm sure setdoc knows the proper terminology. This is a fellowship in the field of OMFS for someone who has finished a GPR/AEGD residency, not a residency position for someone planning to become an OMFS or that has already finished a OMFS residency. If you can think of a better term, maybe you can suggest one. It's not as if the term "fellowship" can only be used to describe post-OMFS training. If that were true, would maxillofacial prosth have to be termed a study club?

Are we talking about OMFS or Pros? If it is a one year OMFS position then we call that an "internship". My suggested term is "scutmonkey".

I agree with 50 CAL 100%. I'm an OMFS resident and a fellowship is something done post-residency if someone wants to sub-specialize (i.e. Craniofacial, Microvascular, Cosmetics, Trauma, etc.) The person who posted the original message is being very vague. He needs to either state if its a residency position or a one year internship. I seriously doubt its a residency position because he said "several" positions were open. If there are several residency positions open at that program, I would investigate as to why before I considered going.

So this is a PGY 2 position for those who have completed a GPR and wish additional training in OMFS, either prior to applying to anOMFS residency, or just for the additional experience. It's that simple.
