Hey everyone,

I’m currently a D1 with an interest in OMFS. I’m married with two children and was hoping to hear from residents who also have families about their experience. Thanks in advance!

Coresident has three children, one born during intern year. He is an excellent resident and can manage his time well. You aren't the first and won't be the last! You can do it.

What about for females?

We do not have any female residents with children at my program, but my previous OMS attending in dental school had two children while in residency. Ultimately, these concerns are on a case-by-case basis depending on your personal situation. Has it been done before? Yes. Will it be done again? Yes.

If you want to do OMS you should do it. I can say without a doubt that residency with children will be more difficult, of course. But it's not impossible. What are your specific concerns?
