I know someone who switched from OMFS to ortho during residency. He completed 1 year in his OMFS program (including USMLE Step I), then quit, worked as a GP for a year, and matched into ortho. He was a great resident but decided OMFS wasn't his true passion.

switching residencies is one thing...his question seemed to imply that he wanted to hear from surgeons who went back.
