Good thing or bad thing? Both Pritzker and UCSD have put my app aside, saying I'm "on hold" until after the more qualified people get accepted and they decide if there's still room in the class for people like me. (Well maybe they didn't say that exactly, but that's essentiall what it means.)

I'd almost rather get a rejection just so their some closure. To have things drag out possibly 4-7 more months is agonizing.

Wish I knew. I got the same from Pritzker and U of MD, both of which I interviewed at in October. Does anyone have any tales of acceptance after getting one of those "we cannot make a decision at this time" letters, and if so, how long did it take? And are letters of grovelling appropriate?

Dodge This -- if it makes you feel any better, when I inteviewed at UCSD, one of the guys there had received a "hold" letter from them -- about 2 weeks before they offered him an interview! Take heart, all is not lost... (although I've been waiting since October on a "hold" letter from another school).

Wow, that sounds like a crappy way of telling someone. I mean, if you get in, you'll always be thinking in the back of your head that they were hoping for someone more qualified.

On the other hand, since your application will continue to be reviewed, it's more likely that you will be accepted than someone else with similair qualifications. Good luck!
