Just thought I'd pass this article along. It deals w/ NYC trying to pass a bill requiring a one year residency for dental students.

Albany, N.Y. ? Do four years of dental school provide students with the experience and skills required for clinical competence?

The New York State Dental Association says no. On Feb. 11 officials from the NYSDA were expected to introduce a bill that proposes a dramatic change in the state?s dental licensure process.

If approved, candidates for initial dental licensure in New York will be required to complete a post-graduate residency program of at least one year?s duration following dental school.........

I think the article was saying that if you do a 1 yr residency you can get a liscence in NY without taking the NERBs clinical exam. It would be great if every state had something like that rather than having your whole liscensure exam come down to one day.

I know a dental student here in the state of Michigan that told me something similar to that. He stated that for the entering class of 2004 there will be a mandatory GPR for all dental schools. I do not know how valid that is but it did come from a dental students mouth.
