My school gives us Microsoft Office and OneDrive/One Note for business where I plan on taking all my school notes, but because it's the "for business", I can't seem to download any of my notes to my personal computer. I'm guessing this means after med school ends, any file/notes that I used from OneDrive or OneNote or anything in the cloud will be lost forever?

Do you think this will be a problem? Should I just use Powerpoint instead of OneNote because of this? Do residents/attendings ever even look back on any notes/files from med school haha

Surgery resident. I never use my med school notes.

You could either export the files to an external drive or just start fresh come residency. Whatever works.

In terms of OneDrive I’ve used the university provided Business version for syncing my files through two universities across my personal and school devices so I would check with your school’s IT department about it (maybe it’s permission/security issues or you’re just setting it up wrong) before you completely write it off. I like using it since it’s a large capacity and I have both Apple and Windows devices.

In terms of keeping your notes afterward, always download any file (notes or otherwise) you want to keep after graduation since there’s no guarantee how long the school would keep your account open. Use whatever software works best for your workflow though I will say I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone using PowerPoint extensively for keeping notes; I’ve mostly heard OneNote for Windows users and Notability for Apple users. I’ll defer to actual residents/attendings about anything post-med school.

Hope this helps!

Onedrive should look like any other Folder on your computer. It syncs from there into the cloud. You just need to keep all your original folders and files in the Onedrove Foldrr, or symbolic link to them from your Onedrive folder.
