Hello all,

I've been accepted to the class of 2024. I just found out that I have to take biochemistry. This dampens my plans because I was going to travel pretty extensively before matriculating. I can take a T/Th course at my local college, but I was wondering if I could take an online biochemistry course instead? Does anyone know of a reputable course that people usually take? Do you think this would be a bad idea? Thank you, just not sure what to do.

Congrats on your acceptance. Just contact the school(s) that accepted you and ask which type would they prefer.

I highly recommend UNE’s Biochem class. I thoroughly enjoyed it and felt the content was on point providing a good mix of big picture macronutrient metabolism, synthesis of important biomolecules, hormonal drivers/signaling pathways, and clinical correlates to aid in learning.
Do you remember how expensive it was and did it require a lab? I don't need a lab. Also are you able to finish it quicker than 16 weeks realistically?

I finished in 12-13 weeks while working full time, taking a couple other classes, and studying for the MCAT. Cost was ~1500 I believe

And is it just lecture or it has a lab component too?

Credited as a four hour class. Honestly couldn’t tell you if one of the four hours was credited as “lab”. The entire course was lecture based.

Make sure to get a confirmation of any requirements, if there are some, on what the school will accept. Some have restrictions on online classes, especially for fulfilling STEM requirements. Losing vacation time stinks, having to push back an acceptance and throwing away money on a class that doesn't count is devastating.
