Online Business Resources & Texts vs. Accounting Classes to prepare for Practice

I've been reading about health professionals being swindled over mishandled finances. Do you think it is wise to take accounting courses to understand where money in a practice? Or do you think it's better to read up on simple accounting calculations and business basics to detect these errors?

Also, can anyone recommend courses in accounting, is anything useful above the basic Financial and Managerial accounting?

i would recomment taking actual courses. im about to get started on an SMP with an emphasis on the management aspect of running a medical office and i *hope* it will teach me everything i need to know and nothing i dont from an MBA program. but the bottom line is that taking classes will teach you what and why you need to do things in a certain manner. if you read up simply on theory and basic principles, you may not know why you are being told to do certain things a certain way

this is one of the big reasons the MBA holders/dental corporations are buying out dental practices and the dental community is not in favor of this. one, because the dental community wants to hold onto thier job. and two, because the MBA holders are freakin good at what they do: managing. dentists are usually not as well versed in the business aspect and make a lot of mistakes.

i would recommend you to do the same thing that im doing as well: take the classes! lol
