There were no unfilled spots in the match this year, though there may be drop outs I suppose.

I didn't apply neurosurgery originally, but I'm looking to switch from my current residency (not-neurosurgery) to a neurosurgery residency. Right now, I'm looking at entering the match again this fall, but I'm wondering if any intern positions ever open up (and if PDs try to fill them right away). I would be a competitive candidate for a slot during the match, not just trying to slip in outside the match.

Any advice would be welcome.

What is your current position? What was your board score? Neurosurgery has a 20% attrition rate. Look for opening positions and go from there.

How does one go about looking into PGY-2 spots? There is website that had a couple of open spots, but it was from the previous year. Does anyone have any advice on how to approach this?
