I'm an undergraduate student hoping to go to med school and specialize in ophthalmology. If any one is in a ophthalmology residence/rotation or even just knows some infor about them, I have a few questions for you.
1. Would it be better to be a MD or DO?

2. Who has the best program for it?

3. How competitive is it to to get into?

4. If you are in a Ophth. res/rot, I would like to know what med school you attended and if you don't mind your GPA and other stats about you that helped you get in.

Thank you

1) Probably MD
2) Probably MD
3) Very-Extremely Competitive
4) Talked to a NYCOM alumni currently doing an opto residency at Lennox Hill/NYU. Said to be competitive, have to be AT LEAST in top 10% of class.

Which are some of the better ophthalmology programs in the northeast and midwest? If anyone has any insights on getting a residency position or if anyone has friends who recently matched in ophthalmology, I would appreciate your info or anecdotes.
