Except the few programs that are strictly PGY2-4, do they all now require doing a prelim year at the same place? Do they all require applying to it, through ERAS? And now that ERAS programs cant see apps til 10/21-is the deadline for the prelim years the same as SF match 9/1 or later?

Starting 7/2021, all Ophthal programs must have an integrated PGY-1 year. So now you're guaranteed a prelim year. However prelim years still are distributed through NRMP, so you could rank other programs higher. For example, some programs may decide to have their integrated year be a prelim surgical year, and some might decide that they would rather something else. It will be up to you whether you want to apply to and interview at other prelims.

Radiology needs to hurry up and follow suit. It would save so much time and money and relieve so much stress.
