This is pretty stupid, but according to some people, wearing a blue shirt on an interview implies that you are friendly and easy to talk to. A white shirt, on the other hand, makes you look boring and unfriendly. It makes you look like a person with no personality. I'm leaning toward blue, but I don't want to stand out in a negative way. Either way, I'm wearing a black suit. What do yall say? blue or white?

Blue if it looks decent on you.

I vote blue shirt crisp and clean and looks like it's made from good material. (I'm a girl)

I'd go red

37% of applicants that wear blue shirts are accepted to their top choice medical schools while only 33% of those wearing white shirts get into their top choices.

If you really believe what you just said....why would you even ask the question? Blue would be a clear choice.

If you don't believe what you stated above, go with white shirt. I think it goes a little better with black suit. Plus you can get some really nice white shirts with a little design but blue shirts look the best when plain.

I am no expert...just my two cents.

I wear a light blue shirt with a herringbone pattern - it looks real nice with the black suit/gold tie...

gold tie... eeeek

blue shirt + what color tie?

It depends on the suit color and other accessories like the tie. I think a white shirt lightly starched is the best bet. Blue to me is more casual.

Is wearing trencoat over the suit ok? I'm thinking about doing this when I go up north since it'll be cold.

i like light blue on a black suit with a good black tie...

Blue shirt, black suit w/ blue pinstripes, blue and black tie = MS3

I do however have smashing good looks that make the women melt in my presence. It was either that or because I carried a banana in my pocket 😉

But I believe the suit and shirt selection had more to do with my acceptance than my good looks or my academic performance.

My cologne too. I stunk up the interview room and the interviewer was mesmerized.

I guess I'm going to have to put my chicken suit away...I guess gold on gold feathers doesnt go too well.

Me too. But it's not a banana. 😉

light blue shirt, simple red tie, black pinstripe suit.

👍

It depends on the shirt, the tie, and the suit. Not just the shirt. A bad tie easily ruins any shirt.

White. It's professional and I think looks nicer than blue on younger people. When you watch the senate's confirmation hearings for Samuel Alito look at the way the senators and Alito are dressed. (I already see that Alito has a black suit with a nice white shirt and red tie on. Forget your partisan feelings for a minute, these guys dress well.)

You can't go wrong with white. That said, I wore a light lavender shirt with a dark suit. Seriously. And the tie looked like it was designed for the shirt/suit combo -- a tasteful pattern of lavender, charcoal gray, and silver. Wear whatever makes you feel sharp and confident.

If you really want to be the standard, traditional, do-what-the-guy-at-the-suit-store-says, go with dark suit (with properly matched shoes--no navy/black combos), white shirt, and the red "power tie." If you just want to look nice and don't want to be cookie-cutter, where whatever you want, within reason.

I've interviewed several med school applicants and seen dozens more. I'm currently interviewing for residency (why am I trolling on the PreMD board???) and I can tell you that I rarely notice what people are wearing unless it's
a) awesome (usually it's a killer tie), or
b) hideous--ie, doesn't match, too casual, too flashy, etc]

Bottom line, anything that you'd ACTUALLY wear to an interview (assuming you're somewhat normal with good common sense) will be fine. Blue shirt, white shirt, who gives a...

I vote for the blue simply because it's different. However don't go with the oxford blue every guy on earth has. A nice yellow tie will offer good contrast to make it a slammin outfit.
