I'm interested in EM residencies in the US, but of out curiosity, I was looking at other training schemes in Ireland and other countries.
I came across this document for EM training in Ireland (which is identical to training in the UK):
http://www.rcsi.ie/files/surgery/docs/20110415042131_ACEMT_Guide.pdf
It's three years at Basic Specialist Level and five years at Higher Specialist Level.
(And this is after a year of internship and at least two years of house officer rotations between the various specialities.)
To me this seems excessive, but I'd love to hear everyone's opinions on this training vs. four-year residency programs in the US.
This year, despite a record amount of medical graduates, there were still 200+ vacancies in Junior Doctor posts in Emergency Departments due to emigration to the U.S. and Australia. Maybe this is why?
