Optho rotations in covid-era

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That's a really tough situation to be in as a DO student without any rotations, research, or letters. My guess would be that your chances of matching (this year) are almost none. If you were to take an additional year to do research and rotations, build connections, and get a couple strong letters, you would have a better chance. Best of luck.

FWIW you need to basically have perfect vision and stereopsis in order to perform in ophthalmology. Assuming this eye condition will be a focal point in your personal statement, you need to throw in the towel early if its anything with long-term effects or a condition that has an effect on your stereopsis in any capacity because any program that looks at your app is going to know the long-term effects of this "condition". Unfortunately, matching as a DO is incredibly difficult, but your step1 score is killer. you can consider applying to the research fellowships which is probably your best shot at this point because you have nothing else going for you in terms of ophtho experience.

good luck

Definitely dont mention your eye condition if you want to match.
