Oral Boards Spring 2010 - Atlanta, GA

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
We were told in writing at the exam 5/21 online, 5/28 by mail, but a colleague told me today that he was told "probably" online by 5/15, and now you're saying 5/7. Interesting... I hope the scoring is more consistent than the informing.

well, atleast I didn't give up my resolve during the exam. Kept my composure. Time for some golf. :D

so... is it tomorrow ? was anyone able to confirm this? id rather just get it over with and find out i need to take it again sooner than later...

Notifications of certification were emailed yesterday. I guess that means if you didn't hear, you didn't pass. Sorry.

Yeah I am cruel like that some times.

Just give the ABA a phone call. Tell them your full name. If you're really nice, they might even give you your results early!

I'm shocked if the certifications were "completed." The oral boards were done what? April 30th?

That means they had only a week an a half to grade and normalize all the scores.

When I took the boards in 2005, I believe it was Sept 26 2005 and the official results were online on a Thursday October 27, which means a minimal of 4 weeks. The ABA website was extremely slow that Thursday since everyone was checking so I knew something was up. Plus those who were on their 3rd and last try, I notice the ABA had taken off their names in terms of board eligibility. Than around 4PM, I saw my name with the board certificate date listed as September 30th.

I think my sister took her ABA orals in April 14 2008 and I am definately sure the results were posted to the web on May 15 2008(again a Thursday)

So there's around a 4 week lag.

Could the ABA have improved their grading that quickly in less than 2 years? This is the ABA we are talking about here. They aren't exactly movers and shakers in terms of getting things up to speed.

I agree, but apr 23 was the last day. They supposedly posted that it would be May21st.

tomorrow the results will be on line.
good luck to everyone. hopefully we don't meet again in a year.

Did anyone else get a email about recertification/MOCA yesterday? Am I reading into this REcertification email too much?

Yeah I am cruel like that some times.

You got an email saying you passed yesterday? or that you are certified?

You got an email saying you passed yesterday? or that you are certified?

periopdoc got a letter stating that he's certified AND the ABA has elected him the new president of the board AND they're going to grandfather him in so that he never has to recert. He's the only one though - no one else got anything...

I think I figured it out why some people think the oral board results are out.

I am board-certified 2005-2015.

I got an email yesterday (Thursday May 6th 2010) regarding my MOCA/re certification and stuff the ABA claim I didn't electronically signed.

So that's why people have figured out that they may have been newly board certified because of this mass-email the ABA sent out to all of it's time-limited diplomats.

It may or may not be true. Who knows.

But I do know it's a computer glitch because the ABA claimed I didn't electronically signed my MOCA attestation etc. I did electronically sign it on Feb 15 2010 and it's clearly in my login page. So I called the ABA and the woman said it was a computer glitch that sent out a mass email, even to people who already electronically signed their attestation.

So you guys may be right, if you got the MOCA/re-cert email accidentally, you may already be on their mass email list: Reason: because you are board-certified already

This is a copy of the email I received yesterday:

.Dear MOCA Candidate:.
.In reviewing your MOCA progress report, our records indicate that you have not signed the MOCA Acknowledgement and Release Form in addition to completing the Independent Practice Requirement response. Please complete these forms online by December 31, 2010..
.Please visit the ABA website at www.theABA.org and click on "Physician Login". After you enter your portal account under the link As a MOCA participant, you can… Sign the MOCA Acknowledgement and Release Form, click on: Required for MOC and must be completed this year..
.Please note that you are required to complete these forms in years five and nine of your MOCA cycle when you complete your Part IV requirements..
.For more information about the MOCA program, please visit the ABA website. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the ABA Customer Service Center at 866-999-7501..
.Sincerely yours,.

oh god do i hope you're wrong. :xf:

I hope I'm wrong too. It's so unusal to release the Oral Board results this soon after the exams were completed 3 weeks ago? (April 23rd?)

I talk to several of my former residency classmates (all board certified in 2005) (we are all very good friends and keep in touch weekly) and they all received this "accidental mass ABA email about MOCA and recertification"

Definitely sure it's a computer glitch because they all electronically signed their MOCA agreement for 2010.

Now the million dollar question is if you just took the Spring 2010 Orals and are now on this "accidental ABA mass MOCA email" that was sent out yesterday. What does this mean for you? Are you now board certified if you received that accidental aba email?

Results came out May 7th last year.. I forget when the last test date was...

That's a Thursday. The ABA (to my recent knowledge) has always updated their public website where anyone can check their board status (without even logging in); so the ABA has always updated their public website on Thursdays.

So that's why I am surprised (it still could be true) that the results were released but it hasn't been already updated on their public website.

It was Thursday for me in Fall of 2005. It was Thursday for my other residency classmates in Spring 2005. It was Thursday for my sister in April 2008.

Thursday is the theme of public release dates. And May 7 2009 was on a Thursday also.

You can check to see who is certified on the ABA website. For periop doc and the others who got this email-does it already say you are certified on the ABA website or does it still list you as a candidate?

All right, maybe we'll see some positive change with him in charge!

Yeah, that is not a world that I want to live in...

Well except for that never having to recert thing...

I could live with that.

I think pod's point is that he was kidding, and he didn't receive any email.

i got that silly moca email... thats neither here nor there..
pod's being his usual sarcastic self.. somethings will neva change.. :p

must be a canadian thing..

tomorrow the results will be on line.
good luck to everyone. hopefully we don't meet again in a year.

So I spoke to the ABA, the moca subspecialty email has nothing to do with whether or not you passed the orals (supposedly). What happened to the results being online today? This anticipation is not exactly great for my ulcer.:scared::scared::scared::scared:

the email that was send out totally confused my "reliable" source. so now we need to wait for the date ABA told us :xf::xf::xf:

Your source sucks, and you suck for making me waste my entire day checking my status online! I could have been playing Halo online. That's time I'll never, ever get back.

Same here. I lost a ton of online porn time. martha, you could have at least posted "listen guys, a friend got this email from the ABA..blah blah blah...so MAYBE the results will be posted soon." Noooo, you had to write "results will be online tomorrow." What the f is that??

The results have come out online always on a Thursday the past 6-7 years.

The results have always posted 4-5 weeks after the Orals have taken place.

That's why I found it highly unusual of someones "sources" that the official results were released less than 3 weeks before the Orals finished.

As I stated in my previous posts a while back, there was a mass email sent out by the AMA to "MOCA" candidates on Thursday. Maybe someone's "source" just jumped the gun since they were on "that mass emailing list" so they assumed they were already board certified.

So if you are going to check your results, wait till at least this Thursday after 2PM. That's when the results have been posted the past few years. It may be this Thursday. That's about 4 weeks after the orals or it may be the following Thursday. If they told you the results would be posted on May 21st, that means the results always post a few days earlier than they tell you.

This thursday would still only be 3 weeks, which according to you is historically too early. I suspect next thursday the 20th will be THE day.

well it is thursday 2 pm did any one check if the results are there ?
i am too nervous to do it

Seriously, does it REALLY take this long? I think last year it was released in two weeks!

Last spring it took 3 weeks. I took my test on Thursday and the results were available exactly 3 weeks later, on a Thursday.......which would be the equivalent of today.

The deadline to apply for the fall boards is 5/15 - since you have to wait minimum of one year before retaking them results would not be made available prior to this date.

I checked... and yes this reminds me of match day thread, probably the same people here as back then

As much as I envy you guys, this is beginning to resemble the annual Match thread.

I tend to disagree - match day is a known date, this is totally the opposite.

Not waiting now, though. I still have the D day to be scheduled :scared:

when you guys are checking results how are you doing that? going to the aba site and putting in your name or are you signing in to your profile.

I understand there are logistical differences between the two events, and of course differences in what the outcomes mean.

As far as level of anxiety in a thread, it's a pretty close race.

I am not actually checking the website. I was just waiting for an email from the aba. I thought that is what they did for our writtens isn't it? Once I got the email I then checked the site for whether I passed or not.
With regard to anxiety level, personally, I have more anxiety with this than matching.

i am checking by entering my name. today there is no response when doing it. they are probably updating the data base with the results. tomorrow will be 4 weeks for me :xf:

Martha please tell me your not weighing in again with speculation after the debacle last week.

As far as I know, the ABA has always released the results on a Thursday afternoon.

Doesn't matter if you took it Monday-Friday. It's been released on a Thursday.

I know when I check my results in 2005, the ABA website slowed to a crawl since lots of people were checking on it. Same thing happened in 2008 when my sister asked me to check since she didn't have access to a computer. That website was bombarded with request.

So Thursday if the key. If they tell you it's May 21st, than definitely this Thursday since it's always a few days ahead of what they tell you.

There seems to be general agreement that the update occurs at 2PM on whatever Thursday the results become available. Just so I'm clear on when i should start hammering their servers tomorrow, would that be 2PM EASTERN time?

I went back and looked at my email from the ABA last fall.

I got the results on the Thursday 3 weeks after the exam week (not 4 like I had previously mentioned).

Time stamp on the email was 11:43 am EST.

I'll bet tomorrow is the day:scared:
