Has anyone had success switching their oral boards dates in the past? I'm scheduled for fall, which unfortunately would mean a 25k pay loss over my next contracted year. I'm gonna submit the request to switch and cross my fingers, just wondering if anyone else has had luck swapping in the past.

Go to the ER now, or you'll have a stroke.

Good luck to yah; but how does it mean a 25 k loss ?

You don't have to answer that if you don't want to.

It's one of the bad parts about how ABEM schedules the oral boards. I get why they do it, but since many work at places that give a pay bump to board certified docs (I assume this is what the OP is referring to), it results in the vast majority wanting the spring slots. I'm sure there are a few who prefer the fall for whatever reason, but everyone I am talking to wants the spring.

Yea, I got stuck with Fall date also... I'd really prefer Spring but it doesn't affect my pay at all. I'm not quite sure what I'm about to do yet.

Cerb, why does it affect your pay? They pay you less for lack of BC? That's bogus.

At my shop there is a 25k difference in pay between board eligible and board certified... Pretty crappy in my opinion but not much I can do about it aside from finding another job.

Private group? CMG? Employee? That's insane.

Even the military pays more for board certification. For IM and peds, they take their boards right after residency and don't take orals, meaning that they get the bonus sooner than fields where board certification is delayed by a year.

Hospital employee, it's not something EM specific and this particular hospital has had problems with ****ty docs who don't maintain their board certification.
