hi..i was wondering if anyone knows what the hours are like for oral surgery residents and once they are out practicing. In addition, if anyone knows the starting and average salaries of an oral surgeon, that would be great. Also, does having an MD degree make a difference in the salary of an oral surgeon?
Thanks

I was interested in this as well. I did some research into it a few months ago, and it appeared that all the programs ONLY took dental applicants. This surprised me, since it was a dentist-turned-hospital administrator who told me to check it out as a specialty choice.

Do they even take MD's? Or only DDS/DMD?

Not sure. But they (residents) do work long hours compared to a general dentist, but not compared to a general surgeon.

Once in private practice, I think its a pretty easy lifestyle.

It's my impression that my OMFS colleagues have a fairly similar schedule to ENT. The most annoying part of their training (along with ENT & Plastic Surgery) is the face call
